Hey thats me who has taken the pics !
Its no doubt a wonderful place but its one of the tough treks !
its defi not for the first timers
its a 2 day trek
its more of endurance type of trek rather than difficult types
in this summer its extremely demanding, need to carry water till u reach top which can take anywhere from 4 to 6 hrs

Also the worst part of the trek, if u dont have ur own private vehicle, is that u need to walk something like 5 KMs on the dam from the highway to reach till the base village ... just this part can sap ur energy

This pic gives an idea ... u need to walk from the extreme end (top) to base village (around center) http://amitkulkarni.info/pics/harish...-gad_026.shtml

Anyways as Avid Mentioned i dont know abt the pachnai route !

Kokan kada cliff is i feel grand canyon of maharashtra ... make sure u never forget the first sight as u approach the valley ... its unforgettable as u realise that the eyes can't accomodate such an expanse ... make sure u go right till the end of both edges of the semi circular cliff to get the full idea

Here are some places with easy treks, good food and lovely lakes to have a swim and chill out . For a weekend travellers .I went to lake placid this week end and loved it

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare dream of meeting your heart's longing.

well amit, i donot think so.... i get up at 5 AM leave vashi reach kalyan take any bus going via Malshej ghat get down at Khube fata take that shortcut to Khireswar in 25 mins flat and peeeooow am there at the temple at the top for lunch. so we can easily avoid the 5KM punishing dam wall.. its boring n tiring i know .. had to do once tho becuse it was dark and cud not take the shortcut but luckily hooked up in a jeep to the highway...but after 2KMs of dragging! pain it was.

ppl lets try to make it this way. but wud be glad to take Avid's route..have been wanting to be at the base of the Kadda sometime.. may be this time.. if the route is conquering the kadda from some side path...

Question First timers

If first timers are in majority, I'll say that go for a one day "with swimming lake" programme. I was out walking most of the day today..... and its terribly hot.

Yes, I have done Hariishchandragad in April May... but climbed at night. Most of the treks now [summer] involve night climbing to avoid the heat.

As a one day trek... we could do Peth Kothaligad... but its still quite hot. The climb is not severe... and there's a nice cave [to rest] on top.

There are several trails in the Borivali National Park as well...

Hariishchandra requires some 2 or 3 days prior preparation [ food etc]. Its not like we decide on Friday morning and take off at night. Unless you don't want to eat for two days. [ i have survived once ] If some foreigners decide to come they WILL have to carry bottled water.

thats interesting a night trek

I would love doing it , I know it is treachorous but there is a high of walking the mountain trails at night, the danger of one wrong step and the valley below would embrace u or the gushing river would take u places which u would never imagine and the fear of the unkown... These elements make u a stronger resilient person to take on life and travel upheavels the way they come.

So guys get your juices flowing and the adrelin pumping and we can have a trip to remember...cos we live one life so lets live it to the fullest...

C'mon starting smsing " NightTrek_Name_no" on 9324455591
e.x."nighttrek_anil_9324455591 "
to enable us to ascertain who wanna brave it out.

This is just a different no, bcos the other cell I use it more for business purpose, and some times the messages would go unread.

Hi,
Avid

Please let me know that which dates are feasible and the rough plan for the night trek (one of the last weekends this month or first weekend next month)

Then we could fix up the dates ...as already amyl, navin, murtaza from cs and me have decided to do it.

Please guide accordingly

Thumbs up Am busy on 25th 26th

Anil, am busy on the 25th and 26th march.

Any weekend after that is OK.

Personally I would not overdose any first timer with a two night summer trek... but if you are willing, who am I to say NO??

Just don't crib afterwards. I know many first timers who have simply sailed thru a difficult first trek.... and some who have actually cried.

Just remember you will be carrying a rucksack weighing at least seven to ten kilos on your back....

A hearty welcome to praks.

I know him from 1980. We have trekked together in the Sahyadri as well as the Himalaya. He happened upon IndiaMike somewhat by the pouring of ""the great deluge"" of 26/7 in Mumbai.
