| Senior Member | Any IMers From Mumbai? Hi, Would be delighted to know if there are any IMers from Mumbai. We will be arriving in Mumbai this SAT, so would like to know if there are any good cultural even taking place this weekend, such as a nice classical dance or a musical performance. And by the way is the monsoon at its full swing?. Thanks Dan |

Monsoon is expected around 20th june.... but predictions more often go wrong. Currently very very hot and humid and i wish i were in the Himalaya. If I remember to look up the weekly listings, I'll give some info abt classical performances [18 19 20 June, right?] Which style of music are you interested in? Carnatic (S); or Hidustani (N)? Where will you be staying? Colaba? Or near the airport? This is an extremely relevant question because you may not want to travel 40km thru gridlock traffic for a Saturday evening performance. Welcome to Mumbai!!!

We will be arriving in Mumbai on 17th Night, actully it will be early AM on 18th. 1. It will be nice if there is any HINDUSTANI classical music or 2. Indian classical Dance performance. 3. Yes, you are right, its for this weekend, 18th, 19th and 20th. As far as staying is conerned: 4. We will be staying near the Bombay University at KALINA. 5. If the its a good PERFORMANCE wont mind wading thru 40 kms of think MUMBAI traffic. Thought Monsoon has arrived in bombay: 6. Initially we thought of going to Alibag and stay there at a hotel, but it seems the boat services were cancalled since last friday, due to monsoon. 7. As you say, monsoon will be there only around 30th june, may be we should head to alibag, what do you say. I truly appreciate your help. thanks dan | |

| Music etc. Dan, I have both the Sunday Newspapers [Times of India, Indian Express] and both of them have not given "Events for the week". They used to print these things on Sunday for the coming week... but they seem to have discontinued it. They have printed events only for today. Anyway, you can still look up the paper for the day after your arrival and see the listings for music and dance.... Sorry, I really thought those listings would be given .... but they are not. Alibag should be OK. If you are not used to the heat, book an aircon room in Mumbai and Alibag, it will be money well spent. It is maddening right now. I really hope it rains in 6/7 days. Alibag boats may be stopped cuz the seas are quite choppy. You can still go by road, but it will a three & a-half hour ride one way. Book an aircon Toyota Qualis, it is the most comfy. If its overcast and raining, Mumbai will be pleasant when you arrive. If its anything like today, you will want to run to the mountains. I have some local language newsppr too.... if they print the weekly events.... i'll give it a try. |
