Another Taxi query..Sorry!

Hello,

So getting a taxi from the airport to Colaba I use a pre pay taxi booth not a problem! But how about the return journey? Do i pre-order a taxi from somewhere? Or do i just hop in one and get them to go by the meter?? Should the return journey be a similar price?

Thanks

Return: Hop into another one, preferably not one parked right in front of your hotel. (Some guys lie in wait for tourists)

Under normal conditions. Fare should be slightly cheaper. But final amount depends on traffic.

If he is taking a train from Mumbai to Goa then he should go to either Dadar, Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) or Kurla Terminus depending on which train he is taking on the Central Railway. Mumbai Central is only for the Western Railway network and trains from there do not depart for Goa. A prepaid taxi from the airport to CST would cost about Rs350 and take about an hour after midnight or about two hours during the daytime.

Just a few questions which need to be answered first: Is he going directly from the airport to the train station? Does he have enough time in between the flight's arrival and train's departure time? Does he have the train tickets booked already? Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.

You can call for a Meru Cab on (022)44224422 and get an airconditioned taxi with a printed bill for your fare which is about 25% more than the regular taxi fare. Alternatively you can just hire a regular taxi and ask him to use the meter, at night the night charges are more than the day fares which you can see on the fare chart for the older taxis with manual meters whereas the newer taxis with digital meters will show you the actual fare. The fare should be about Rs300 at the time you are travelling at night. It will take about an hour to reach the international airport from Colaba at that time.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Well, in that case you should not have a problem unless the flight is late as most of them are nowadays due to congestion at the Mumbai airport most of the time. If the flight is on time and reaches at 3:30 then you should be out of the airport after clearing immigration, baggage recovery and customs which will take about an hour. Then just take a prepaid taxi from the government run booth just before the exit gate and tell them the destination (i.e. CST). You can book a regular taxi for about Rs375 or an airconditioned cool cab which will cost about Rs450. They will write the taxi number on your receipt which you hand over to the driver and he will take it to the police booth for verification and then hand it over to you. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.

As aadil wrote, your brother has sufficient time to reach CST (the starting station) to catch 0103 MANDOVI EXPRESS at 06:55hrs. In case there is a delay for some reasons, and he cannot make it to CST in time, he may board the same train at Dadar station (should be around platform 5 on east side) at 07:08hrs; the train halts for 2 minutes at Dadar. The Dadar station is between the airport and CST; thus, your brother will save about 15-20 minutes. This plan should be used only if one may miss the train at CST because of a few minutes delay.

Thank you for the heads up in case of delays.
