All types of recommendations for *BOMBAY*

Hello all

Travelling to Bombay from Pune in 2 days time.

ANY recommendations as to places to stay and (especially) nightlife, would be appreciated. Also any other tips and general info.

Much appreciated

If you're into retro dance stuff, check out Polly Esthers. It is my favorite nightclub in Bombay. It isn't as pricy as some of the other clubs. Athena is another option.

Retro dance stuff at Polly Esther's means Bryan Adams' "Summer of 69".
600 rps cover charge. I dished out 750 rps for a double shot of whiskey.

Go around the corner to Gokul Bar for some serious drinking action...

No man Not Gokul Bar

My friend do you think a friend coming from pune to have a good time in Mumbai would wannna end up spending his evening at a place like Gokul bar might suck.

First of all he needs to define what is his expectation from Mumbai
because people on weekends prefer to go Clubbing at the most up beat clubs, run down pubs,DBs,Rave Partys...... so if he would define his specific choice we can definately add light

Hi goamit, Vasko, pranavc and others.

I've just arrived in Bombay and finally found a hotel I liked and could afford after 2 hours in a taxi going from hotel to hotel.

After driving around Colaba, I ended up back in the center in a hotel called Balwas.

I decided to check out the hotels recommended by an out-of-date Lonely Planet guide, only to finally take the hotel that was first suggested to me by my taxi driver when I first hired him. Moral of the story must be that occasionally taxi drivers do know best!

Anyway the sort of nightlife I like is where there is mixure of local and westerners, average age about 30, with world, latin or house music.

The club I most liked in Pune was Cyclone.

Also, looking for cool & interesting things to do during the day.

Thanks for all your input

Have contacts first

I decide to return to Pune as i just couldn't achieve anything, nor get anywhere, in Mumbai.

I think Mumbai is the sort of place where one really needs to have contacts, and in that case I might have had totally different experiences.

As it was, the taxi drivers never understood where I wanted to go, even though they always professed to; neither the three taxis that night nor the many other drivers they asked had ever heard of "Polly Esther's" , Athena, nor Enigma. So I spent ages been driven around either aimlessly or to the wrong destinations.

The hotel (after the two hour search) turned out to be too noisy to sleep in- traffic noise terrible, extremely noisy fan which meant that I couldn't have it on at night so had to open the windows and allow more noise in.

I realised today that I was getting greatly over-charged by the taxis; my first taxi had charged me 850 rupees, and subsequent ones were usually 300-400.

Things just went worse from there and it was turning out to be an annoying joke so, although I only spent 24 hours in the place, I decided to not to expend any more effort.

Thanks again for all the contributions
