8 hour stopover at Mumbai Airport

Hi all,

I have an 8 hour stopover at Mumbai Airport later this week, landing at 12noon and flying off again at 8pm. I have never been to Mumbai and would love to take the opportunity to see the city.
Is there enough time for me to get into the city and walk around for a couple of hours before going back to the airport again in time for me to catch my departing flight? I'm concerned about traffic jams.
Any suggestions on what to see in the couple of hours?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a visa for India? If so, you could takke a taxi to Juhu Beach which is close to the airport and walk around there a little. Also close by is the Hare Krishna Temple which is in a nice, bustling neighborhood. A good place to walk around. Colaba which is a popular travelers area is too far for the little time you have.

You could try to visit nearby Juhu area check out the ISKCON temple, Juhu beach, roam around a bit then take a cab/rickshaw to Lokhandwala Andheri near Infiniti Mall and do some shopping. There are some great restaurants in this area too.
Beware though its too hot and humid in Mumbai these days. Its pre-monsoon weather.

Thanks for the suggestion Sanket.
Sounds good.
How much travelling time should I allocate to get to Juhu? And to get back to the airport from Lokhandwala Andheri?

If you have around 8 hours .. & you are a bit of a risk taker .. you could head to colaba side. See the gateway of india, lots of good buildings in that area. Check on the net to see the places that you should visit.

Take a ferry ride which takes an hour if you feel like it. (from gateway)

If you have an international flight .. then make sure you are back at the airport latest 2 hours before departure (if you have already checked in.. then even 1 hour is enough)

To be safe ... from andheri / lokhandwalla / juhu to airport .. is about 45-50 mins in peak traffic.

Airport to colaba - 1hr 20 mins in morning. evening return .. about 1hr 40 mins. If you are brave ... take the train. Assured of reaching from andheri station in 45 mins. Beware that taking the train is not easy & can be a truamatic experience.

If you are at domestic airport .. use vile parle station. have fun

You can actually go to Lokhandwala Andheri on the New Link Road first so that you can beat the afternoon heat shopping around in that area(Infiniti Mall). It'll take around an hour by cab to reach there.(Less traffic in the afternoons)
There are some great food options on either side of the Link Road. Spend a few hours here as per convenience.

Then take a cab to Juhu ISKCON Temple(15min). Sit down/relax/meditate. Read some great books available there. The temple has a calm and soothing ambience.
Then walk to the nearby Juhu beach as the evening sets in. Sunset is around 7.15pm these days so you may not get to see it.

Ride back to airport intl terminal from Juhu beach will take 30-45 min depending upon evening traffic.

And Yes. If you've never been to Mumbai before, the taxi rides will be an experience in itself.
