Question for techies in Pune

I am normally resident in the US but I am planning to spend 6-12 months in Pune. I want to spend some of this time doing open source development that is socially useful(specifically free educational software) Is there much of a culture for this existing in Pune? I think Pune might be the place for it in India if there is any. If my question seems overly broad please help me get specific. If you are interested definitely let me know

Check out these guys. I was looking for a company in Pune to partner with to build RIA using Open Source (and who use Agile methods). As they say they prefer to work with community/social projects they might be able to help, or know of another organisation that might be interested:

Hi all,
Sorry saw this thread for the first time. There is absolutely a culture for Free Software/Open-Source (FOSS) in Pune. There are a handful of companies which are doing stuff in Pune. The awareness is good.
