Moving to Pune in June from USA
Hi All,
I'm moving to Pune in June from the United States. I will arrive on June 22nd. I've never been to India, but I've been doing my research (via this website, guidebooks, etc.) I've even signed up for a 6 week Hindi course in my city where I currently live!
My biggest concerns involve:
-Housing. How feasible is it to get a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment in Koregaon Park (this is the best area, so I've heard) for 30,000 INR per month?
-Is it possible to pay rent, get food, buy clothes, etc. with only 40,000 INR per month? (It appears that this will be enough, but I've heard different figures for clothing, food, etc. as of late)
-Are there gyms in Pune? Or should I just be running outside?
-What do I pack with me? (I am planning on buying the majority of my clothes once I get there, but what about over-the-counter medications, i.e. Tylenol, and contact solution and waterproof items, i.e. shoes, jacket, etc.?)
-How expensive is it to travel WITHIN India? I want to visit Agra, Goa, Chennai, etc.
-How expensive is to travel OUTSIDE India? I want to visit Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, etc.
I am pretty self-sufficient person, but I think I have so many things reeling in my head to get ready for this move, that it's hard for me to focus. I appreciate any thoughts, suggestions, comments, etc.
Thank you!

Also, what are some things to do in Pune? I like hiking, going to dinner/brunch, sitting in a cafe with a good book, running, yoga, and sightseeing (which sometimes involves just wandering around and people watching
).

I love dinner and brunches
and people watching is also fun as long as not too intrusive for them
Monsoons and post monsoons are amazing times in pune to visit the forts and the hills nearby. If you a hiker then you sure would love some of the climbs.

Thank you all so much for the information! I am making my lists and buying some last minute things before heading out in a couple months!
I would appreciate if you could look in to the housing situation. That's probably my biggest stress, but everyone says not to worry; so I'm trying not to! I will need to adjust to the Indian lifestyle of "going with the flow" and not being so rushed as I am in America.

Dont worry, everything will be cool. Just enjoy the flavour and flow. I agree with Rohan- Just try to be prepared and relax. There will be certain things which you have not planned for.
Be ready to deal with them.
Many people panick and lose their patience when certain unexpected changes happen to their plan.
about the housing- Will you be getting any temporary accomodations upon arrival?
Or do you have to move in to your own rented apartment from Day one.
I just searched for rentals in Koregaon park in the classified in my organization. But did not find anything of use. Will check with a few friends if they have any contacts.

Thanks for the advice. I do need to learn to go with the flow
I will be able to stay in a hotel the first couple nights, and then with another staff member until I find a place.

Pune is a great place, I am sure you will have a good time.
My tips:
Take a joyride in a glider at the hadapsar gliding centre. Try some paragliding whilst you are there too.
Eat eat and eat some more. Pani puri, bhel puri, misal pav, dosa, utthappam...you can eat so much for so little!

Ohh yes Eat eat eat is the mantra. Pune has a lot of variety in food. A paradise for foodies. I moved hee last yr.
Koregaon park is very expensive but your work location should decide where u want to stay as the rush hour traffic is horrible.
I live in Aundh area which is closer to my hubby's work. U should be able to find a place that includes gym, swimming pool in the rent lots of new apartment complex are built with these fascilities so they dont charge extra like our place

I actually won't be going in to the office very much. I'll be traveling around, visiting schools, so the location doesn't really matter since I'll always be traveling anyways. Thanks for letting me know that I should be able to find a gym or swimming pool. Good to know!
How do you like living in Pune so far?

Hi! I am moving to Pune in August and decided I'd like to live in Aundh too, as it will be close to my office. I have been looking at 99acres and suchlike websites but am not sure how to really go about finding a decent place to stay. In case you have any advice, please share it with me. Also, I am a bit afraid that as foreign single woman it might be hard to find a landlord/landlady/society that wants to rent to me. Are these fears justified or not? And if so, any tips on how to cricumvent this obstacle?
And finally, I am not sure whether I'd want to rent something I haven't seen with my own eyes, and I am thus looking for a place where I can stay the first two weeks upon my arrival. Any tips for a pleasant B&B, guesthouse, homestay in Pune-West?
Thanks.

My responses in BoldAbout the B&B or hotels or service apartments for a temporary basis you will have to specify some budget.
Also You have not spoken on your budget, any preferences 1 BK or 2 BHK any gyms , pools facilities required etc for the place you seek to lease out.
All the best and welcome to Pune.
