Long Term Accomodation in Pune, India

Hi everyone,

I will be arriving in Pune at the beginning of September for a 6 month internship.

I know that many people come to Pune for Osho's ashram, but it is also a center for IT companies. Therefore I am wondering:

Is accomodation expensive?

Do most people share rooms?

Is it best to rent an apartment, live in a hotel or live with a family?

Are there any special laws concerning apartment rentals for foreigners?

Is it a really crowded city, as far as morning traffic goes?

I would appreciate any input.

Thanks!

Hello, IP, I have been researching a move to india for a while now, and have looked at accomodation housing all over India. I have only been looking into apartments because that is what i want.
Apartments in Pune range from 2500 Rs per month upwards. However, the nearer you get to the actual city the more the prices go up, naturally.

Have a look on www.realestateonline.in - they have a lot of apartments listed and you can contact the vendors for information. But they don't always reply so don't hold your breath.
Happy hunting.

Yannick.

s/he is already in Pune now, avoiding to inhale all the fumes possible in morning traffic Pune is bad for that because it is surrounded by mountains.

The Osho "Ashram" used to have a day care center for kids of Westerners. You may not like their orientation, but they are good people, and our kids (of the age of yours) liked it there. But it is on the other side from where Mr. Iyengar is located. Which means you'd have to go thru all the fumes also

But Pune is really a great center of education with people of all kinds of international origins, lots of interesting people, so there should be a special solution for you too.

One IM member called Noodles has acomodation for rent in Pune. Seems very nice for a reasonable deal. Perhaps you want to PM Noodles.
