24yr old moving to Pune ...Easy to meet people?
I may have the opportunity to work in Pune for 8 months. I'm moving from the UK, 24 years old, and slightly worried about the likelihood of meeting people and having a social life out there.
I get the impression that many people in Pune, especially expats, will be families. Wondered if anyone could give me an idea of how likely it would be for me to meet people of a similar age for socialising, nights out, etc? I would be moving out there more for the experience than the work itself, so this would be really important to me. I'd appreciate any help/opinions. Thanks |

Pune was always pretty cosmopolitan, and with the IT boom there, even more so.
If you are only looking for expats, your options may get slightly limited. Else your workplace should be a good start for meeting some people. Pune has a lot of young IT crowd, not just families. Maybe there are expat gatherings too, somebody in Pune may be able to help there.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I was hoping that the job would be a good place to meet people - I'm not concerned about meeting expats, rather socialise with locals if possible.

I am moving to Pune too. I will live in a village (Paud) at Mahindra United World college. I am 27 years old and I'll be teaching Spanish and French.
Any tips? I want to buy a second hand bike and I love pop, rock music (Frnaz ferdinand, Beach Boys, The Smiths..), any good clubs in Pune? Thank you, Marķa |

On the other hand, you will love Pune - a very nice mi-size town/city with plenty to do. I don't know if you have been to India before, but please be aware that the bucolic experience of a Western village differs vastly from that of an Indian one. Best wishes, like I said I think you'll have a blast! |

Well, thank you for your reply. The place where I'll be living differs from a Western and an Indian village. Here is the campus:
www.muwci.net Also I will buy a bicycle to have a way to get to Pune. Thanks! m. |

You can try "Cafe Down Under" which is at MG road. It is a nice place to hang out with good rock music. Also you can try "The Hard Rock Cafe" at Koregaon Park.

try not to visit pune for next 2 months.
if you could postpone your visit by couple of months things would stabilise on H1N1. |

And apart from campus area, it would be a typical Indian village although it is located in a naturally beautiful area. |
