Suggestion needed from Residents of Dehradun

Hi All,

I live in the US and plan to move to India around June.
Planning to settle down in Dehradun.
I have shortlisted a couple of apartments(for purchase). One of
them is called SG Impressions (SG Estates Builders). This is
located at Sahastradhara Road. The property is 6 km from Railway Station and 3 kms from Ghanta Ghar.
Can the residents of Dehradun suggest if the area is good for
residential living? An pros and cons of living here? I plan to come down to Dehradun next month so any advance information will be highly helpful

Thanks

There is lots of construction going on the Sahastradhara Road now and I cycle on this road a lot and have not had any problems. I am a foreigner also. It is not far to town but you may need a vehicle and driver. I will ask at my office as to the area you plan on going into and get back to you. What will you be doing here?

That part of town is still quiet and nice.

Wonderful! Thanks!

I am thinking I should buy an apartment first and live there
for a few months - See how it goes. We live in South India and
if for some remote reason - I do not like it in Dehradun - I
can always use that as my second home - spend the summers there.
I plan to start an offshore software support business.
I have been closely monitoring the temperatures in Dehradun and
I am delighted to see it is still chilly out there - compared to
the horrible hot weather in Chennai.
After my initial posting, I have found atleast 6-8 new
apartment properties. I intend to fly down to Dehradun next month
and take a first hand look at these places.

Basky - Need to touchbase with you

Basky - I grew up in Dehradun and have been in Los Angeles for the last 7 years. I did a fair amount of research while trying to decide on an apartment for my in-laws in Dehradun. I saw some properties on Sahastradhara road as well. The area is upcoming and should be a good location. I assume that you would be looking at the IT park for your offshore business. If so, Sahastradhara road would be ideal to avoid a long commute.

If you are keen on renting a house and willing to undertake a loger commute, I would recommend Vasant Vihar or Ashirwad Enclave (near FRI). Both these areas are prefered by well to do, educated folks.

I would like to connect with you. I plan to return to India and Dehradun would be my first choice due to an existing family (I spent 2 years in Chennai and liked it, except for the heat!) It would be great to explore some options with you - i have spent 10 years in the offshore outsourcing business and have strong local connections in Dehradun

I can be reached at pooriepoorie {at) yahoo.com. Hope to hear from you

A friend just told me that she had booked an apartment in that area. 2 bedroom for 30 lakhs! Phew! Too expensive in my opinion!

Yep, that's correct! I booked a 3 BR apartment for a few lakhs more. Just wait for a few months - The rates would go up more.
Nowadays builders are offering an all in one package - modular kitchens, pools, parks, clubs etc.
With a stable Govt in place now - prices would only move one way - UP!!

livinhimalayas - Can you suggest reasonable localities where small kids can play around in the neighborhood without any worry. Hopefully I would like to know areas where English medium elementary school is within 1 - 3 km radius.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry can't help you much with that as I am not a resident of D.dun only a migratory bird that touches town only for shopping once every three months or so .
