Hello xzxneon! You will see I have moved your post to another Forum because your questions are not related to Visas and Passports. I have also added a bit more to your title so that it is clearer as to what you want to find out.
Have you an idea about where you will live in India? Will it be in Jaipur because you are from there? I think there will be a few ex-pats living there, and she might like to hook up with them for social contact. Udaipur has a good number of ex-pats, including French, there as well. This aside, (because a mixture of friends, not just people from one's former country, is good) it depends enormously on the person how she will find it. Learning Hindi, or the version of Hindi which is locally spoken, is a useful thing to do. If she will be with your family, if they all 'get on' with each other, that will be nice, too. If she can maintain her own independence then even better - whilst immersing herself in your culture, it is good to be able to be independent herself too. Having her own hobbies, reading, interests to pursue at the same time is helpful.

It'll be hard for her, that's for sure. As you're also living abroad (London), I guess you can imagine the difficulties on all fronts (comfort, family, food, climate, mentality of the people....). I'm not saying that per se it will be a bad experience, as Aishah said that will mainly depend on the type of person she is and on what she's going to do in India. Imho a lot will depend on whether or not she can find a (well-paid) job. You also know of course that if she moves with you, she essentially drops everything back home as far as social security, pension,....are concerned. It's a courageous person who risks all on a bet that everything will work out just fine. You could say that love conquers all but being a cynic I'd add that it also turns people into blind fools
![]() If I were you (and her) I'd advise moving over for half a year to try things out. During that time the 'new'-factor will have worn off and she'll have a pretty good idea. |

You don't say if she's ever been to India - India hits everyone differently. If she hasn't, then a trial run is definitely in order.
After that, just do as Aisha says..

There is a friend of mine from Jaipur. He is a Doctor by profession and married a Russian girl. He is from a not-so-liberal family. So there were interesting issues from his family, which we are not interested on IndiaMike
. On the other side, the girl really worked hard to get involved in the local life. After two years, she was able to sing the Ganesh Aarti during Diwali. I was amazed to know that. I asked her that how was she able to do it so quickly and she told me it is all because of the love and support of my friend. So, it a lot depends on both of you! All the best. |

Nice story, Paresh - I really enjoyed reading your post. Your last paragraph sums it all up really. ('a lot depends on both of you')
