Moving to Gurgaon
Moving to Gurgaon
Hi Experts,
I currently live in London with a 16 months baby and wife. I am of indian origin and desired to work in India for a short term < 5 years. Now when i have an offer from a captive centre. it has made me to bind some sincerity to my desire. The centre is based in DLF City Phase III.
I have never been to Gurgaon and none of remaining family live anywhere within 1000km of the proximity to it but scouring through forums, it appears to be a 'planned' city.
Questions to this forum would be
what & how much would be
1) Decent residential location around DLF City Phase III - i have looked through 99acres.com site it is good but has little information about particular area which is
a) safe & clean (is not a puddle during heavy rains!)
b) less of Water problems
c) at least 3 bed room with 2 bathrooms house (with some garden) or flat with large sun facing terrace
d) Close to a park or green belt < 5 mins walk
e) Close to Shopping < 20 mins of drive
f) Near < 5 mins drive or 15mins walk, one of the best if not 'the best' childcare/Creche
g) even if not in dlf city phase III but not more than 30 mins drive
h) reliable domestic helpers around
i) monthly rent < 25k
k) property/apartment with power backup option
optional
l) close to Golf course
m) a flying school - doing PPL.
2) what would be a good family (5+2 seater) car and how much should I budget
a) I have an hybrid fuel vehicle (electic+petrol) can i bring it there ?
b) what would be the Indian customs implications?
3) Part of relocation I can bring certain items from here but unsure what should i bring there. does anyone know? for eg should i bring
a) furniture - couch , mattresses, kids room furniture etc
b) Home Electronics - lcd, phone, washing machine/dish washer/grinders/microwave? again not sure of customs' implications are here.
c) all electronics except for the plug shape work there with adapters?
d) definitely bring Guinness ! which is good indian beer?
4)What have been the hardships faced by expats there?
I would really value your feedback of living in Gurgaon, ideally before i sign the contract happy to call you.
I am taking help from India centre's HR but i am weary of the fact that i might get one side of the story so i believe forum is probably the best place for it and i would really appreciate your responses. if you are a landlord i am happy to contact you if you can PM me your contact numbers.
thank you

Hi Techmanx,
I would like to answer two of your queries.
1) Car and 2) Relocation
Regarding your requirement of car, based on your needs you can go in for the Toyota Innova or the Mahindra Zylo. You can keep a budget of 10 to 11 lakhs INR.

The Mahindra Zylo comes in very attractive colours.
If you want advise on importing your hybrid car to India, I can get you details but you would need to mail me some details like the Make and Model, Year of manufacture, Engine CC etc.
http://www.mahindraxylo.co.in/index.html
Regarding your query on shipping, if your company provides with you a with relocation/ shipping allowance then you can ship your stuff ( furniture , LCD etc ) as the quality of furniture in UK should be definitely good.
Getting a property should not be a big issue. I am sure your company would be providing you temporary accommodation atleast for a month till your shipment arrives and you can identify your home within that period.
Members cannot send you a PM as you would need some qualifying period in order to receive PMs. Moreover India Mike does not allow any commercial activity here and any attempt to do so might attract a ban.
Best Wishes, Raghu
