I believe by 'gated communities' he meant apartment complexes
with security guard. There are a few there in Dehradun. |

Yes ! I have seen may apartments being built........
But I wonder....is it a good idea to buy an apartment in a highly seismic active zone ?

If I am correct Dehradun falls under the same seismic zone as Delhi. Dehradun has 5% of the apartment buildings Delhi has. People don't remember the last time an earthquake hit Dehradun. At least in Dehradun they have floor index rules. You are not allowed to construct more than 4 floors - a policy which Delhi does not have. After some research there is some talk about extending it to 6 floors now. Not sure when that will happen though.
But then again, can anyone forecast an earthquakez? |

Dehradun is a dream town for Family
Hi.
Read through the thread. I am born in doon and scooled there. Left it 10 yers back for college and only a visitor there since then. It is my dream to live in Dehradun. Primarily because my family is there. Apartment culture is new in Doon. Renting of independent houses and renting of portions in the house is more popular. Like, my parents live on ground floor and have have tanents on first floor. My parents tell me that there are apartments coming up. There are few on Curzon road and few on Sahestradhara road. Safety is not a major concern yet though incidents have increased in last decade. 10 years back I used to walk from center of city to my house at 2 AM - 3 KM aprox. Major population is educated and service class. A very typical middle class. Since scools are good and no good options for graduation, you would find a lot of houses where parents live in big houses and children ar no more in Dehradun Much like me. I do not eat out a lot in Dehradun but there are plenty of palces. The public is very receptive, irrespective of weather you are from Tamilnadu or Andhra. Initial communication gap may occur. Pros: People, weather, Security, Nature Cons: Traffic, Connectivity to Delhi |

A bit confused about this - Traffic I agree with it is terrible, but why connectivity to Delhi? Why would you put it as a disadvantage? I think it is better connected to Delhi than a lot of other places. Or did you mean that connectivity to Delhi somehow undermines the character of the City?
