Moving to Chandigarth
Hi everyone
After many trips to India I am finally taking the plunge and moving here.. or at least I am going to give it a try After reading all the helpful answers to parathas in Chandigarth I wondered if there was some equally helpful advice about a few other things in Chandigarth as this is the place I will be setting up home.. 1) Any health food shops/supermarkets I can stock up on veggie items and longed for things from home like proper cheddar cheese and baked beans (two essentials of life!) I have seen plenty of ketchup but what about salad cream, marmite and branston pickle?? Also be good to get herbs, essential oils and things like Bach Rescue remedy... 2) Any ideas how much it would be to rent a small flat here.. I know it is an expensive area but I am willing to pay the price for all those green parks and lack of litter! Any good rental agents in Chandigarth? 3) What about things to do.. not sure if I will be working yet so I would like to go to some yoga classes and learn hindi..what are my chances? 4) Any girls there! Would be great to meet up and do girly things 5) Was thinking of getting a Any rescue homes there or don't such things exist in Chandigarth (too posh maybe)6) Any charities I can work for? Think that's it for now - the main things sorted, food, house and company Thanks all! Sarah

Well at least i know where to get parathas in Chandigarth - looks like I will be living off them
Any other advice for me please? Any other expats lurking around Chandigarth? As much as I love the museum there I don't think I want to spend every day there! Any clubs I can join? Ladies wot lunch or something.... (albeit on parathas.... ) |

"possibly the most bizarre thing i saw in india was in the residential area of chandigarh near the rock garden. after weeks of only seeing the mangy street dogs we passed a house with a labrador wearing a tartan jacket!"
excellent! sounds like a possible pal for my pooch at least there may be a pet shop there then for any essential tartan coat purchases ![]() |

Always good to hear about my hometown chandigarh. There are a lot of places u can go to shop for all the alienish food that u mentioned above.Sector 17 market, sec 35,34.. Try sec 19c market where u can find low prices [ yes i was born there ].
There are lot of eating joints in chd & they are spread all over.

Thanks
I got the shopping sussed out last time.. though didn't find the bargains in S19 c so will check those out.. So far then I have plenty of suggestions for eating and shopping and have the possibility of getting a dog who may or may not make friends with a dog in a tartan coat.. ![]() What about things to do... think I might get lonely Or extremely fat and broke very quickly if all I do is eating and shopping! Help me out guys.... |

Timber trail is nearby ( Parwanoo) . Yu could also take a trip to Simla.
For accomodation as mentioned above check the Indian Express & Tribune Classifieds . There is one specific day dedicated to property and to lets- cant remember whih one ----STEER CLEAR OF ESTATE AGENTS - Lots of clubs / discotheques now in Chandigarh for partying . HOT MILLIONS in Sec 17 eating joint used to be very polpular in the past - dont know now |

HOT millions downunder is a PUB with good music playing going alone might not be a good idea.
Arrizona in sec 9, blues in sec 34 [ good one ], las vegas in sec 34 & few on the outskirts. |

thanks guys, all your answers are much appreciated
I think the hardest thing will be to find accomodation at a good price becuase from my experience everything doubles in price at least because of the colour of your skin... which is ok for a bedspread or a pair of sparkly shoes... but a bit different when you are forking out to rent a flat. I will definately steer clear of estate agents and hope to find a kindly soul who realises just cos you are a bit pasty looking doesn't mean you are loaded! ![]() |
