Info On Moving to Pondy/Auroville

Hi all i was just wondering what it costs or what i have to do in order to get some land/house in Auroville or around the town of Pondicherry. I'm still young so i'm thinking of a place to retire too in the years to come.

Hey!
I have visited pondy several times and have really loved the place. I was also thinking of living in auroville for a couple of months sometime back. So that’s why I could probably answer your questions.
There are many hotels/guesthouses in auroville ranging from couple of hundreds to couple of thousands per night. There are also many communities where one can live without paying anything or very little by being a part of the community and helping them out in whet ever way one can. There is also a lot of house sitting opportunies where one can live (and take care of the house) for a couple of months or more without paying anything. It is a little difficult to buy or rent a house right inside auroville but a lot of things have changed now. If you are lucky you might be able to rent a house within or just outside auroville for Rs.5,000 to Rs.10,000 pretty easily.

You can also visit their website for more info if you still haven’t

I think I want to correct what chinmayie says here, in case others read this later. Housing for long term-stayers (two years or more)is always a problem at AV. Also it is not easy to find a house for house sitting, and many residents are waiting for such opportunity. There are a very few places, namely farms, where you can work for lodging, but you have to work for 4-6 hours per day which is tiring and does not leave you much time to explore the place. Plus the lodging is very basic at these places (only recommeded for strong men with working experience).

Renting in AV is only possible on a daily basis, but in this category there is plenty of room available, except Xmas-mid February, when AV is flooded with visitors, and pre-booking is recommended. Even then occasionally vacancies open up, to which the AV Guest Service would be of help (hopeless during Xmas-New Year week).

As to the original post

it is not realistic unless you become an Aurovillian yourself, and even then you cannot own any plot. But you can live there indefinitely (as long as the Indian Government does not change its policy about AV).
