Expats in Chandigarh
Expats in Chandigarh
Hello,
We are considering a move to Chandigarh. We have school aged children (all ages). All have lived in Asia and attended international school before. We understand there are no international schools in Changigarh. But wondering if there is any expat community at all.
Any advice appreciated.

My company is considering a plot of land in Chandigarh area. I am also interested if there are expats living in Chandigarh and if there are expats with school age children. I will be visiting the area next Monday (27 April). If I get some prior information about expats (preferably with children) I would appreciate. Although, I have no idea about expats......Chandigarh is very nice place to live......

About schools, friends of mine in Panchkula (right next to Chandigarh, a sort of twin city) send their kids to Saint Kabir School, and have been very pleased with it.
Edit: found the school's website - http://www.stkabir.co.in/pages/index.htm

We are also considering moving to Chandigarh sometime later this year. What is the expat community like (if there is any)??
Expat interest in Chandigarh
Hooray,
it sounds like there are some expats interested in moving to Chandigarh this year. My husband and I, plus a 3 year old and a 1 year old are moving to Chandigarh at the beginning of April.
I've struggled to find any expats saying anything about Chandigarh, but having looked at some of the websites for schools there, there is one called First Steps which did have some expat children in the photos. So there must be some there!
I think for the first few weeks, I will be accosting any expat looking face and asking them "where to live, where their children go, where to shop, etc, etc". So if anyone is approached by a 6ft blonde with 2 children in tow, you'll know who I am.
Well I hope you all do decided to move to Chandigarh, and if so, we'll have to meet up. Somewhere, not sure where, as even though my husband has been out there, 3 times I think now, I'm going out blind. So it will be a huge voyage of discovery!

Hi there!
I know your post was made a while ago - but I was wondering if you did make the move to Chandigarh. We are coming out in October for 5 weeks or so to tour about with a view to moving over for a few years. We too have school age children 7 & 8 and a baby of 8 months and I'd love to hear how you are getting on - if you are still there! Many thanks
Janet

Jay Hanuman Ji !
Well, as far as I know about Chandigarh you will not feel away from the nature.
Safety, hmmmm well no one can be sure of any place any where in the world, but I din't mean to say that Chandigarh is not a safe place, it is and I don't hear much negative in this regard.
Chandigarh is modernize. I think. here is "Beautiful City's" official website :- http://chandigarh.nic.in/
People are good, not a concern to worry about.
PS: I don't live in Chandigarh, I live 60 kms. away from this city.

Moving to Chandigarh and looking for host family or roommate
Hello, my name is Demelza and I am moving to Chandigarh for 9 months. I would love to live with a host family or roommate for safety reasons as I am a young female. I will be conducting research on economic development in Punjab under a grant from the U.S. government called Fulbright. I can pay rent and I am very respectful plus I do not drink or smoke. I lived in Mohali (Chandigarh) in 2011 as well but cannot live with my old host family because they moved to America
I do not want to live alone because I will not feel safe so please send me a message on here if you would like a roommate or are a family that would not mind renting a room.
