You are so lucky, NamsteCat ! In my younger years, with a different feline, I tried taping the bottom of the couch. The result was rugs and chairs sporting tape balls of various shapes and sizes, and everyone in the house tripping on them.

Just found out something cool. A Chinese friend brought me pepper cloves from Szichuan, wrapped in aluminum foil. Shere Khan here got hysterical at the sound of it, kind of maracas-like. So I took a handful of rice, wrapped it in several layers of foil, hand-shaped it into a ball, and that seems to make for a very satisfactory toy !

Yeah, I know, I'll have to clean up rice from all over the place at some point. But at least it keeps the sanguinary beast off my keyboard !

Sounds like your cat(s) found themselves a loving owner, Khandoma (and many of you other folks).

Right - my friends laugh at me too, in a considerably less nice manner than you are, Mach. Because you see, the wild beast is like three inches tall and a shade of ginger so pale it's really pink. I was about to name her something delicate. But this mental cat keeps jumping from the ground to my shoulder with zero run-up (and I'm tall), all claws and teeth out, because she likes playing with my hair. My arms are so slashed I look like I'm dating a werewolf.

Hence the cat tree, and the name...
If I stop posting from a long time, fellas, it'll be because the cat ate my tongue, and that's not a metaphor.

Hm? No, I really do think it's an excellent name Wish I'd thought of it.

(Reminds me of when as a kid a friend's father dared me to pick up one of the stray and semi-feral cats they fed btw. I suppose he'd meant it as a joke, but no little to his horror [and I've never been very afraid of animals, not that I'd seen this coming myself either, far from it] I stepped up & grabbed the beast. Amazing how holding its middle from the back, it could turn around its upper and lower body 180 degrees and -- slash, slash, slash, marraaaoowww!! -- rip up my bare arms to shreds in a matter of half a second or so.

I think coming home that day, my mom was equally amused. Hey, I had earned the 10 guilders he'd bet me -- and which he dutifully handed to me, albeit looking a little pale.)

I did, only I wanted to call our cat 'Sher Rukh Khan'.

Wife shot that idea down, as she does most of my ideas too often. No man is a wit to his wife.

Rahul, thanks for the info. If I move back to India, my beloved Bombay will be at the top of my list pretty much, so every time I visit I look around to see how I'd fit in. Same for the cats, hey I have my priorities! Very nice to know I can find things for them, really appreciate you giving those resources.

Khandoma and Mac - similar experiences here too though in the past, thankfully this current crew are quite well-behaved All mine have silly Hindi or Spanish names e.g. Jaipurr. It takes me longer to spell their names than my own when we go to the vet's! They want to pronounce Baag like bag. He does like bags, I'll give them that! Anyway now like me, the poor cats have formal names at home and pet names at the vet

Capt - great minds think alike. I almost called my latest kitten that, but my husband thought it was silly (as if the other names aren't!). Hey now that SRK is "famous" after all he is supposedly a "world figure" maybe people in the US would get it if I called our guy 'Sher Rukh Khan'

Meeeeow! That must have hurt, and given you a helluva scare. You definitely deserved your 10 guilders!

It did cross my mind too. I thought it was fun. There was, however, strong resistance from the very real gentleman who shares my life and sometimes feeds the cat. Now how you can feel threatened in your manhood by a 4-month-old pink female pussycat with a Bollywood star name I don't know. But then, I'm only a woman...

Anyway, you can get a sofa at any furniture shop, and your cat will love it. The more expensive the better.

(Glad you found your stuff )

By the way, I have two cats. They are both devoted Fishnavites. One is called BoyCat, the other is called Yogeshwari Fishnawathan.

Oh yes, I can attest to this one! An expensive sofa is the best scratching area for sure! I've tried reverse psychology, guess who ended up looking quite the fool. Cats had the last laugh.

Good ones!

Jay's fave place in India is Rajasthan so we're working our way through the towns ending in "Pur". Pretty out of control here with Udaipurr, Jaipurr, etc. No one in the house likes my nod to Jungle Boy - Meowgli, boo hoo!

Hi. i was looking to make a Home Made scratch post. Wanted to know from where can i buy sisal rope.
The Hardware shopwalas dont seem to understand what is sisal rope, What is the Indian or Hindi name for that.
Coir ropes r available, but they r much softer than sisal ones.
The Commercial Scratch posts r expensive since all of them r imported. i was looking at a economical option for my dozen of Persian Cats.

Ask for the Hindi word for thick rope -- rassi pronounced russ-ee -- because then they will show up various types including jute. You might find if not sisal itself, something close enough to get the job done. I'm blanking out on a Hindi word for sisal, seems like we also call it that though pronounced see-sul whereas in the U.S. I have heard it said that way also sy-sul. capt_m/anyone, help?

Hope you find something that will work for your cats
