| Mumbai is quite safe, taking ordinary precautions into account. As mentioned, the biggest issue is transport time, as is the cost of housing. There is a good expat group on yahoo, called Bombay Expats, where people regularly post share house information etc. Bandra is a good area for expats/NRIs to settle.

| The Twice born one | Sounds really similar to my office address - I work for a Telco ...if am close enough let me know - not too many problems if you work at Peninsula . Closest place to live could be Bandra. and if its the same organisation , dont worry enough experience here in the system to ensure you settle down comfortably |

| If you are on a budget and has to pay for accomodation, Navi Mumbai is a good option. Its by far the cleanest and well laid out suburb (by indian standards). Takes 45 mins by local train to Parel. Navi Mumbai is a newer (relatively) suburb and so the housing costs are a little lower. Also no slums. It has decent malls and theaters. However, its missing really upscale shopping and fine dining compared to south mumbai or bandra/juhu. Also very very sad party scene. Its easier from Navi Mumbai to get out of mumbai for weekend trips as its very close to pune expressway. saves an hours drive compared to other parts of mumbai. When I moved back from US, if it wasn't for Navi Mumbai I would have run back from the noise and ruckus of mumbai. Happy to help if you need any with local Navi Mumbai information. |

| local train ? i wouldnt even manage getting into or off the first class at peak traffic hours. you gotta be joking. navi mumbai is definitely a great place to stay... but bandra positively is even better. like i said - rent burns a hole... but gosh - its worth it. :brishti |

| Have you tried local trains from Navi Mumbai ? a little more bearable than central/western suburbs. There are local trains starting from both Vashi and Panvel. You can actually even get a seat if you are willing to skip one train. Also ladies compartment (first class) is not so bad if you get on from Navi Mumbai. My wife often prefers to take the train to save time even though we have a car and driver. Now there are also BEST & NMMT A/C buses from Navi Mumbai to Bandra and SantaCruz, very comfy, very good public response. Sadly not towards South Mumbai side yet. True nothing beats Bandra (west!!) if one can afford it. |

I am stuck between finding a flat share (hopefuly with some native girls) or asking for a servided apartment...any advice? What is Worli like to live in please? i am 30 and british asian so it feels a bit weird but I will be landing on the shores in May - if anyone else is in same boat get in touch. | if worli doesnt work out look for a place in shivaji park, specially cadell road(new name savarkar marg)less than rs 40 by cab and 15 minutes. bandra would be further away than shivaji park by another rs 30/40 and another 20/30 minutes. during monsoon which starts mid june traffic will get much worse and cab meter will keep ticking. so keep weighing you option of lower rent with time and cb expense rgds |
