Housing in Mumbai
Hi Palbadri,
It may take anytime between three weeks to 6 weeks depending upon the collection date and the vessel sailing date. You should consider lucky if you get it in 4 weeks time. Did you try magicbricks.com ? the apartments in that area would be around the Sft only, smaller than you expected. thats why I gave you a hint of the upper limit. You can also try Wadala as an alternate option and there are some spacious apartments, but the locality would not be as lively as Dadar or Matunga. You cannot PM another member unless you have posted a certain number of messages, however you can mail me if you wish. As you would be given temp accommodation on arrival in Mumbai, you can come here and do a home search. I can refer to a few agents and you would need to speak to multiple agents so that you have more options on hand. However , you would need to discuss the brokerage part upfront otherwise they might take you for a ride. By the way when are you planing to come here ? Await to hear from you, Raghu Quote:

Thanks Piccolo and Raghu.. We r hoping to move by May end or June..
yes I ve been checking Magicbricks as well. Not sure about Wadala.. Its tricky, but coz am moving back from a very vibrant place in NY and originally I come from the hussle bussle of Delhi, I want to live in a vibrant + spacious place ( Hoping could live near the sea would perhaps be asking for more than I can afford ) but yeah Vibrant spacious, young couples society and pretty looking complex/apartments is what I ideally have in mind..I dont care abt swimming pool and gym but I do care that the apartments should look pleasant not the DDA types in Delhi... Having said all that, I have a budget of 35k coz spending more would not make sense.. i wld rather buy an apt.. Personally I loved powai and hiranadani ( dont wanna confuse you guys) but well that being really far away from where my work place is likely to be... it doesnt make sense. Thanks for feedback on shipping. |

Hi Raghu- No update yet. Seems like June it is going to be... but can not say with certainity as of now. I guess will take 2 weeks more to finally understand when we are moving.
my anxiety is increasing..i stopped posting in between coz even though i have most of the infromation on housing posted by you all, I can not do much about it till I arrive in mumbai. My concern right now is to dispose off my car and furniture most of which I bought jst recently.. and also a huge headache of what to do with the rest of my lease of apartment...I suppose once I ve figured these out .. i will update you all more on new stuff happening with my RTI plan.best from Pal. |

Hi Pal,
Good to hear from you again. I can understand your situation as you cant do anything on the home front until you arrive. I have a friend in Jetairways working for the admin and procurement team and a proper Bombayite. I shall ask him to give you some advice on how to go about on the house hunting spree. Do drop me a mail and I shall link him to you. He was in my team when I was in Bombay. I would also advice you to check how much it would cost you to ship the goods ( furniture etc ) than to buy fresh when you come here. If you had just bought it recently and if the shipping cost is more or less the same for new buys, you can as well as ship it. For whatever it is worth, get a quote and then decide. I hope you have the reference I gave you. Keep in touch and best of luck for your move, Raghu Quote:

Hi - I finally know when we r moving and its in 2nd half of June. I finally sent notice to my apt building we r leaving for india... huge issues with breaking the lease etc I am selling all my furniture- half of it is gone. Not able to sell my v expensive new mattress and considering moving it to India but the shipping company said it wld take too much space 50 c.ft or something....
And yeah spoke to a couple of friends who thought Wadala, Chembur were the final areas where i shd be looking.. ( dropped idea of powai though Bandra is still on the list and we need to check how long Bandra to Mahape takes?) So that makes the potential residential areas Bandra, WADALA n chembur as the choices Any tips on How to pack glass stuff? My Picture frames of Glass, God's pictures, Glass china and crockery, and I have this Havana smoking Man statue, very delicate and a bit heavy.. jst wondering if i shld ship it or bring it in hand with me? ( If i shld piost these questions elsewhere, pl let me know) I suppose once i am in bombay... will have many more questions.. its still not sunk in that we r moving. |
