Tax System and Social Cover
Hello people.
1)I would like to know how the income tax works in India, could you explain to me how it is calculated. I read somewhere that, in India, taxes are taken directly from the salary, is that righ? Could you, "expats" tell me how you deal will taxes, do you pay also taxes in your home country? In France, it seems there's a convention with India, one can declare in both countries. Does anyone know where I can read this convention? 2) Could you tell me, if someone come on his own to India to look for a job, is the Social Cover provided by the firm which employ you? Or must I suscribe for a Health Cover in India, or would it be better to suscribe to a special one for "the French of Abroad". Can someone tell me how it works in India? Most of the time which are the things covered? In France, when someone is ill and can't work (if the doctor stops him more than 3 days) it is partly covered. How is it in India? Are "work accidents" covered? ooh first, what is considered a "work accident"? is it considered as a "work accident" if you have one during the return home? I guess all this must be quite different from here. Bye |

Citizens and Residents of the USA declare their world-wide income for tax purposes; they receive a tax credit if the country in which they are working taxes the same income.
You can look for something called "France-India Tax Treaty" to see what the two countries have worked out between them. |

2. Social security in India is poor to non-existent. Whatever there is, is generally provided by the employer. There are no unemployment benefits if one is ill and cannot work. Your employer may have a health insurance plan which will cover medical costs. This will usually have an annual limit. If you work in an industrial environment and you are a workman (this has a pretty technical definition), employer is liable to pay compensation for work-related injuries. Otherwise, the employer may (read if they feel like it) pay compensation. You can go to court if the injury was due to the employer's negligence. Don't expect to get compensation for normal occupational hazards like RSI (Repetitive Stress Injury). You will probably not get compensation for accidents while returning home. |
