I live in Powai, Hiranandani gardens, and there are many more expats here, lots of them with babies/young children. It's easy to get in touch with other mums, and we regularly have playgroups.
The hospital here is fine, my youngest was born there, and gets all her vaccinations there. So far I have no complaints.
I like it here, I think Powai is great for young families, but Bandra or juhu would also be an option for you. Have a look at all areas, I personally really like Bandra, it's got more character, and lot's of restaurants and shops. But I still prefer Powai, mainly because I can still walk anywhere within the neighbourhood if I want to, even with a stroller.
Btw, I think Powai isn't as quiet anymore as it once was, I have lived here for 2 years now, and the area gets more and more built-up, and streets get busier. But on the plus side, many more expats, more shops and restaurants, so that makes it livelier as well.
I don't know about the prices in bandra, but in Hiranandani Gardens you should easily be able to get a 3BHK for 1,5 lakhs, 4 BHK for a bit more I think.

We hardly know where to begin and since there are a billion questions to ask, I'll just put it this way-

What advice/tips/recommendations do you have for a family with a young child suddenly moving to Mumbai? We're particularly concerned about the baby's health (vaccines, etc.). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Smile living in mumbai

hallo!
I just read what you wrote.
Maybe I have to move to mombay with my husband and baby.
But..where are you from?

So you are saying that is possible walking with the stroller. That is wonderful.I was afraid about the contrary.

I'm so happy to read all of the things you wrote and now I'm...let' say..ready to mouve.
Now I know that I can do that, I can live my "european" life.
Thanks
Silvia

Silvia, you can be advised properly only if you are going to let us know where your husband's office is going to be situated. traffic is a big issue in Mumbai and sometimes even travelling a distance of 10 kms takes more than an hour.
