Hi All,
I am moving from USA- Boston to Mumbai and I am excess of 30 lbs of stuff like Books & clothes.Flights from USA allow you to carry 40 -45 lbs and anything more than that is too much of cost to pay. PLease help me find cost effective way to send my stuff to India either by sea /courier. |

Are you certain about the baggage limitations? I just checked two sites (United and Air India) and they both allow two bags, up to 50# each. I think you might be confusing domestic air allowances with international allowances, which are almost always greater from the US.

Need shipping info from USA to Mumbai
Sorry abt the metric conversion confusion ....Well as you rightly said that most airlines allow 50lbs per piece so does Jet Airways allow too ...my tickets have been booked with this airline. They charge $150 for an extra baggage

I would go online then, and check shipping rates. You could start with the UPS website, maybe check DHL and also contact a freight consolidator in your area for shipment by sea (remember, sea shipments can take a VERY long time). I have a feeling that you will probably choose to just pay the $150, or maybe just replace the books and clothing in India. Remember to use as much of your carry on allowance as possible.

US to India is a piece concept and it would still be cheaper for you to have a third case and pay the excess baggage as compared to shipping it. The customs clearance formalites will involve a services of an agent, charges at destination and time.
Look up the airline website of call their toll free number. Check out how much they allow as hand baggage. You can get away with almost 12-15kgs in a strolley. |
