Mumbai: Where to purchase consumer electronics?
Hi, all:
Am looking for retail store information on all things for the home. We need to buy everything from a television (plasma?) & universal DVD player to small kitchen appliances like microwave and coffee maker. I imagine there are separate Sony Stores, but what are the multi-brand stores available in the Lower Parel, Worli, Bandra area where we'll most likely be living. Also, if anyone knows what/if the stores have on-line sites to start looking at prices etc., that'd be great. Found a large retailer called Croma, but they don't have any pricing on-line. The brands look great though. What about satellite and/or digital cable service? What's the most popular for getting western channels (US) etc.,. Thanks in advance for any replies. We're just trying to figure out budgets now. The countdown is on and can't wait to get to India! ![]() Last edited by machadinha : Mar 4th, 2008 at 07:06. Reason: adjusted title |

For a product list it would be better to check the site of the manufacturers..LG, Samsung, Sony etc all are available here...
There would be hundreds of multi-brand shops around and you would be spoilt with different deals on the same product..the online scene might not be very hot..and online prices are always higher in India.. you might check www.ebay.com shopping.rediff.com shopping.indiatimes.com |

I think I noticed a whole whitegoods type of street around the Crawford market area - the thing is that you seem to be able to buy anything anywhere in India, there are little and big shops selling stuff in the unlikeliest places - especially Mumbai...
Where the Mumbaikers go I have no idea!!! |

Vijay Sales (Having branches in most of the areas) would be the best option. Sadly their website is under construction.

Renwaa, i would be doing the similar thing after a few months. I have spoken to a few shops and have been advised on the following.
I will visit one store and finalize the goods i want with details of models etc. Once i have the list handy i just need to show them to the different stores and get the best deal. If you intend to purchase a lot of items be sure of a further discount on the final total. LG usually has most of the goods in all ranges they have a option for new house orders for the same you have to talk to their helpline. |

Croma in Juhu or Hypercity in Malad are the best options. They are big stores with western-sized selections, and the prices are fine.
Check the Tata Sky website for satellite. I don't think they have many western selections, above the normal cable channels. |

Awesome information, everyone! Thanks so much. Glad to see LG is in Mumbai. It's the brand we like for our DVD player as we know it's a universal system (have US and Danish DVDs).
