Mumbai: Temp/perm housing, taxes, car/driver, working out?
Hi, all,
I've really enjoyed reading everyone's posts and would be grateful for suggestions on a few points. To explain, I believe I'll be moving to Mumbai in March or April from NYC and am trying to estimate some costs to include them in my employment contract. 1. Temp/perm housing - Any suggestions for agents, websites or companies worth speaking with if I am interested in higher end expat type housing both on temp basis and permanent? My office is in Andheri. I'm most interested in Bandra and, perhaps after that, Juhu as I do hope for some nightlife, restaurants and amenities (beach would be ideal). I'm going to be working very long hours, so I want my apt to be comfortable and well-managed with amenities to western standards (internet, cable, good finishes, sea facing balcony?, gym too much to ask?, etc.). I would also consider a house. I'd be willing to pay something like NYC rates for a 2 bed with outside space. 2. Tax - My company will not handle this for me, so I am looking for a good tax specialist/prep person. I'd appreciate someone with experience with US expats if at all possible. 3. Car/driver - My job will involve a lot of driving around, so I need to be able to count on a car and driver. Any idea of an estimate for an AC car/driver per month? Doesn't have to be super fancy but should be reliable. 4. Exercise - I need my workouts to stay sane. In NYC, I lift weights, compete in amateur triathlons, practice yoga and dance salsa, among other recreational sports. Any suggestions on a good health club? Perhaps one with a nice, well-maintained lap pool? Do people subscribe for big hotel facilities? Any good yoga studios? Running clubs? Also, is it worth bringing my mountain bike and road/racing bike with me? I didn't get the sense that there are lots of opps for cycling around Mumbai, but I could be wrong. I hope this isn't too nuts of a list. Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I actually do enjoy going out too so hopefully will meet some of you there in Mumbai. Thanks!!!
