Moving to Mumbai with a one year old - help needed..
Have read a few threads below but not a huge amount about family life espcially for a 30 something couple with a baby..any advice would be gratefully received.
Opportunity exists to relocate to Mumbai (From the UK) but have no idea how easy it would be for us to meet other parents, socialise, find somewhere suitable to live (Our office is close to Breach Candy) but I have heard that Bandra is family friendly ish...however I would not want to spend my whole life in traffic getting two and from work. Are there plenty of other people in the same situation as us or is this a crazy idea ! Thanks |

If your office is closed to Breach Candy then would advice you to buy / rent your residence in that area only.
Areas you could look out for are Breach Candy / Mahalaxmi / Kemps Corner / Nepensea Road / Worli / Pedder Road / Walkeshwar This areas have many Gardens Tata Garden / Breach Candy Garden / PDP / Kamala Nehru Park They have many fine restaurants as well Also the hospital is nearby (Hope you don't need it) Cross Word book store / Hobby Ideas Craft Centre are also in the vicinity. Living in this area with a one year old - I think no problem at all (For Kid & their Parents both) Ronak. Last edited by aadil : Nov 4th, 2007 at 19:10. |

Hi~ We have a 2 year old and live in Powai. I think it is a wise decision to live close to work because the commute really is a long one. My husband takes 2 hours to Worli (not ideal) plus the Saturday "half day" is more like a full day. So the less commute, the more Daddy time. That said, Powai has some really good parks- namely Hiranandandi Gardens (I may have spelled that wrong), the luxury condos with pools and gyms and relative ease in getting around that are appealing to me having a 2 year old. You should definitely check out the expat's mom's group "The Hopping Bunnies". I have just moved here and have not actually attended one of the meetings but to have a ready made network of other moms and playmates is a definite bonus! If you want, I am open to an email if you have other questions.

I hope the budget is very healthy, for that part of the city. (Breach Candy)
One of the most expensive areas of Mumbai. |

Mumbai is not that baby friendly interms of ease of just stepping out with a buggy and going for a stroll - as one person said Powai is great for buggies and babies. but far to far for daddy!!!
If you choose the b candy area try and get the company to get you a membership of the b candy club. It will be a life saver in those days when you are feeling tired and run down by the city!!! There is the parent and toddler group that meets over the city in folks home. You should be able to get good quality child care and things will be good. It will be a great experience for you all just bring bags of humour |
