Moving to Mumbai - Moms with Kids please advise ...
Hi Everyone - My Hubby and I, together with our 2 sons (4 and 1) might be moving to Mumbai for a year. I'm speaking specifically to wives out there who arent working and who have kids going to schools there. How is it? Are your kids happy? ARe they coping? Are YOU coping? What's it really like? What do you do on weekends? What are the Mumbai people like? etc etc. All and any advice would be greatly appreciated. What is the medical there like? ARe there day cares for 1 year olds? is there something like dstv there, cartoon network for the kids? Thanks. Just anything and everything that you can tell me.

Hi,
We moved to Mumbai in Nov with our now 3 year old daughter. Up till now it has been just great. Mumbai can be tough sometimes (the poverty, pollution, noise) but there are so many great things here that it balances out quite well! Usually after a good night sleep you can handle everything just fine again ![]() People here are great, really welcoming. There is a nice and friendly, active expat community and there are some groups for women (with children). There are many playgroup/nurseries spread all over town however I think minimum age is 18 months. Not sure though. Most expats send there older ones to an International School but only if the company pays because they charge astronomous amounts. Overall we are really happy here and so is our daughter, she is coping really well and is equally happy here as she was at home. At this age the parents are most important to them I quess, so as long as you are there they are fine. There are plenty possibilities to socialise with other kids. In weekends we tend to do normal things like grocery shopping, going out for dinner. We also do some sightseeing or go to a market. A lot of expats join a club to go swimming but they are quite expensive. Shopping is great in Mumbai if you like doing that. There are plenty of options to go sightseeing. In Bandra where we live are a number of nice parks however it is quite hot now so at the moment we rarely go. After 5pm it gets better though. Then the tv subject, we have a tata sky package which includes cbeebies, cartoon network, pogo, disney channel... there is plenty. For us Mumbai has been a great adventure and we really enjoy it! Just to be realistic though: there is some hardship it would be not right not to mention that. Good luck! |
