Moving to Mumbai from the UK

Hi all

We are an Indian family who are considering moving to Mumbai in the next 4-5 months. We have never lived in Mumbai before and need info on rental housing and good international schools for a 4-year old. Any info will be appreciated. We were told that Juhu or Bandra is a good location to stay in. What would be the typical rents for a 3 bed apartment in these areas?

Moderator note : Please donot post the same thread in two different forum. It confuses the members about which thread to respond to and will get your fewer responses. I have deleted your other similar thread

rental in juhu / bandra / khar west - a 1BHK [ONE bedroom, hall, kithchen] would be anything between INR 25k - INR 30k.

3 bedroom - ??
dont know - but you can guage by the rent of a 1BHK.

there are threads about the international school somewhere here.

The rental for 3BHK could range from Rs.75,000 upwards in Bandra and Juhu areas, depending upon the type of Building, Locality and Furnishing/White goods being provided.
If you are going to put up in Bandra then there is Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Bandra-Kurla Complex on the easter part of Bandra Suburb. You can check out their site http://www.da-is.org

Moving to Mumbai - Reg Schools & Acco.

Hi Anji,

Housing in Mumbai is very expensive unless you have a fat budget. I guess one of our members have already given you an hint. However you would need to decide the locality based on where you are going to put up your children and your office location.

Please go through the below link which would give you a whole lot of schooling options and then you may shortlist the schools based on proximity to the office, otherwise travelling would be a nightmare.

Reg housing you may just check out the website www.99acres.com to get an idea before you actually engage a real estate agent.

Thanks, Raghu Kumar

Moving to Mumbai

Hi Anjiyer,

I hope you read my earlier posting. However I am pasting a message below which I wrote in response to another member's query which would be of some help to you. Do go through the same and let me know if you require more info. Regards, Raghu

Welcome to India. Mumbai in particular. I am not sure if you have got the required info as I just saw your post now.

Anyways, I shall try to answer most of your questions.

Not sure if you have firmed up the schooling part. If not just go through the below link which would give you various options.

http://maps.google.co.in/maps?hl=en&...e-results&cd=1

Once you finalise the school then you can look out for accommodation.

Good quality Serviced apartments are not many in number but for the star hotels like the Taj, Marriot, Renaissance and it would cost quite a fortune 3 to 4 lakhs per month and not easily availble.

You may also check out the Hiranandani School in Hiranandani city, Powai which is a self contained township and lot of expatriates are living there. All the apartments are of high standards with utmost priority to Security, facilties like Gym , Swimming Pool etc. They have a very good hospital Hiranandani Hospital.

The place is close to the airport, Andheri and also to Navi Mumbai as required by you.

Given below are two links of Hiranandani gardens aerial view and normal view for your quick reference.

Regarding car, i would suggest that you take a car lease instead of buying as it would save the headache of driver management and car maintainance. The leasing company would provide a spare car incase of breakdown or when it is sent for service, give a replacement driver if your driver does not turn up etc.

Moreover your tenure is only for a year and hence it is advisable not to go in for outright purchase.

Thanks, Raghu Kumar

Hi Raghu

Our move is finally happening! Thank you for all your help with information in the meantime. We are definitely considering Powai, Bandra W etc as options. Is Navi Mumbai ok for commuting to Bandra Kurla complex?

If you are working at Bandra Kurla Complex save yourself a string of headaches and find a place in Bandra W. Mumbai is not a commuter friendly city and the shorter your daily ride to work the better.

Hi Anjiyer,

Great to know this.

navi Mumbai itself is vast, starting from Vashi and extending up to kharghar and beyond on the Mumbai Pune side and up to Airoli via Ghansoli.

If you stay in Vashi , then you can reach BKC in about 45 to 50 minutes. In the evening it might take about an hour. if you stay in Sanpada, or Nerul add another 5 to 10 minutes more.

The route from Navi Mumbai would be Vashi, Chembur, Sion , dharavi and then BKC. These are the key points you would need to cross.

Raghu

I stay at Navi Mumbai and work in Bandra Kurla Complex. Total distance covered is 30 km 1 way. Time taken is around 50 min to 70 min depending on traffic which in turn a lot depends on the hour of the day. The only advantage living at Navi mumbai is that is is extremely cheap compared to Mumbai. 3 bedroom apartment at max will cost you 25-30000 per month at best of teh locality there. But navi Mumbai is nothing like Mumbai , u will certainly miss the pleasure of living in Mumbai here as i am missing , i am my self planning to move back to Mumbai.

Hi Ashutoshrawat,

Anji has never lived in Mumbai and he is going to take a decision based on advice from friends and maybe take some tips from this forum. could you please clarify what you mean by " Missing the Pleasure of Mumbai " Each one's Pleasure and interest would vary and your clarification would help Anji to take a final decision.

Navi Mumbai is a self contained township and may be they would need to travel up to Inox closer to the Eastern Express highway. Apart from that, whatever a family needs, its available including a lovely Balaji Temple on the small hillock. Whereas Central mumbai is congested .This is my personal opinion and I am not challenging your view point.

Regards, Raghu

Hello All

Thanks for all the exhaustive info. I did check out the website 99acres, and it was quite good. As of now, we seem to be leaning towards Powai, Bandra W etc. It all boils down to which school we get admission to, I guess.

What are other good websites for finding rental info, has anyone any idea?
