Migrate to Pune from Mumbai....

Hello-

I presently live in Mumbai, but am seriously thinking of moving to Pune (I have never been to Pune, I know it's a shame since it's so close by from Mumbai, but I am not much of a traveler type). Most of my close relatives live in Mumbai.

I am married and have a kid who goes to 3rd standard. I work from home and electricity and internet access is a must for me. So should moving to Pune be a smoother migration, from these points of view, in order of priority:

1. Electricity
2. Internet access at home
3. Security (I can buy a bungalow or apartment, but I want to also know which is better in terms of peace of mind and security)
4. Good school for my kid

Any other pros and cons if you can point me to, to make informed decision? I am planning to move to Pune starting next year around this time; I will need some time to migrate from here, as there are lots of roots grounded here in Mumbai, which would need careful planning to move safely somewhere else.

Many Thanks...

Hey Nautanki,
I might not be the best person to guide you on the migration move but here is my share of inputs.
I have stayed in mumbai for nearly 2 years and in pune for around 5-6 years (or is it more )

1. Electricity - You will not find the electricity supple as predictable as in mumbai. There would be load sheddings everyday for an hour or two depending on your area. (Not sure if its more in specific areas)
2. Internet Access at home - I dont think this is an issue unless you chose a location where there is no BSNL/Tata/Sify etc coverage. however you can always chose for data cards if you okay with the speed and cost they have to offer.
3. Security - Apartments usually have thier hired security agency. however now there are townships which have bunglows/rowhouses etc which have the security.

4. School for kid- Sorry Cant help on this.

But one thing which you can work out in bunglow/rowhoues and electricity. There are quite a lot of townships which provide UPS backup to atleast one point for every house. You could also buy a seperate UPS if required.

Hope this helps.

Amazing. You have not been to Pune but consider moving there. It happens only in India, sorry for my chuckle. You definitely must go there first. Pune is located in a valley and has a heavy problem with air-pollution. You should see first how you fare with that, and then where you should be staying to handle that best.

Regarding education, Pune should be an excellent choice, at least as far as higher education is concerned (I know, not your concern now), there are many international students studying there from other Asian plus African countries, like from Arabia and Palestine. It is definitely among the best places for education in all of India.

Would you be willing to mention why you consider moving to Pune? Just for interest's sake. Good luck.

Thanks new_traveller and atala for your inputs.

I totally agree with you atala, infact I already inquired with a couple of real estate agents there to see if I can rent an apartment for a month or so and he said it shouldn't be a problem.

So during vacations, in this year, we will go there and stay in rented apartments and get a feel of the daily life there.

I am also looking to stay in a posh locality and possibly near best school possible. I believe Aundh will be a better place or may be NIBM, not really sure, I guess I will have to go and find out.

We love Mumbai. Mumbai is our birth place, and it's gonna be hard and difficult to be moving away from this darling city. But in life you sometimes have to let go things for the better cause of everyone else. Hope it all works out well for everyone for whom we are leaving.

Elohim to the rescue.

I agree with atala on the air pollution part. But I am sure Mumbai is not that pollution free. So this should not be a decisive factor for you to make the move.

I think its good to try out staying in Pune for a few months. Just hope you dont land up in the wrong place place and get a perception about the city that makes you change you mind.

Its a beautiful and lovely place, though the last few years have made it too crowded, polluted, congested

Have a pleasent stay
