Moving to Mumbai with 4 kids: where to live, which school??
Hello
It seems we will be moving to Mumbai in summer with 4 kids, aged 11 to 4. My husband will be working in Worli so I have two simple questions : which school to choose (try to get in?) and where to live? Thanks a lot for the advice! Don't have any clues about schools, but where you choose to live mainly depends on how much are you willing to pay in rent.
Worli is a very nice area, which comes at a price. 4 kids and a couple will require aleast a 3 three bedroom apartment. In Worli this will cost you anywhere from Rs 90,000 to Rs. 400,000 per month, plus 11 months rent deposit, and one month rent as broker fees. Dadar West, which is right beside Worli, the rent will be cheaper. sthakur |

Thanks for the information. I am contacting a couple of those school now since most of them will be closed within a couple of weeks. So time is limited! Thanks for the info on rent prices. After reading on this forum I figured out that we need quite an extensive financial package to be able to live nicely in this city. Which strikes me as odd too, knowing how great the differences are in wealth in this country and especially this city!

Some people who live in Worli also choose to enroll their children in the American School in Bandra Kurla (asbindia.org). Also really expensive and probable waitlists, though with some people leaving you might have a chance.
Good luck! |

The answer to both questions depends on, as usual for Bombay, how much rent can you afford.
If money is no object, the upmarket areas are in South Bombay not far from Worli- besides Worli itself- are Malabar Hill, Warden Road, Peddar/Altamount road areas et al. Else you have to go north of Worli, Dadar/Cadell Road, Bandra.... Schools will depend again on where you live. All the areas mentioned here have good schools, including expat ones reasonably closeby.

Thanks a lot for answering. I am in touch with a couple of schools now so I keep my fingers crossed that everything will work out.
Other question: can anybody advice me on real estate agents for the south area? I have searched the internet but do not seem to be able to find any sites with fotos of apartments/houses on offer? Any advice is welcome, thanks |

Real estate agents are iffy, but one eventually has to often use them.
Check out 99acres.com , magicbricks.com and indiaproperties.com keeping in mind that people often ask for too much on these sites. |
