I live there, and like it, especially with young children. If it was just me and my husband, or with older children, I might prefer Bandra. That would be livelier, more shops and restaurants, but for now I prefer the parks and sidewalks of Hiranandani.
Travel time to Malad will be about 45 minutes, ASB will be 25 minutes early in the morning (school starts at 8), 45 minutes later in the day, and Ecole Mondiale 45 minutes each way (they start at 9). Of course, this is in 'normal' conditions. It could be much more.
If your husband is working in Malad you could consider Oberoi International School in Goregaon, and live somewhere near there.

Hi Hemmie I was reading some previous postings of yours as well. We are considering as well to move to Mumbai but what keeps my mind going is, if it would be nice to live there for my 2 older kids (10 and 11). They are just starting to experience the freedom, e.g. taking their bike and go independently to meet their friends. And with expat life being as protected as it is I am not so sure how much freedom they could have there. Thanks for your help.

In Mumbai for older children it can be hard when they are used to moving around independently (visiting friends, going to a sportsclub) in their homecountry. In Mumbai that's not possible. Expat children move around with the driver, on the bike is not possible, traffic is too chaotic. That's the case for Bandra as well as Powai. Some buildings have play areas where they can play on their own or when it is a group of buildings with a shared playground they can move from one building to another on their own. I know from friends with older children it took some adjusting. For younger children it is much easier as they are not used to being independent yet.

I see older children (10 years and older) walk around Hiranandani independently, probably to meet up with friends. But that is about as far as it gos, and will only work out if the kids actually have friends in the neighbourhood.

Hi Eden I was just wondering if you have any news? We are still waiting for the final word from the employer. Hopefully we will be able to visit early August and take the final decision. But we do not know yet. You can also send me a pm, my contact details are in my profile. Take care
