House in Mumbai

Hi,

I am considering an opportunity in Mumbai on an expat basis. The office is most likely in Powai.

Is it possible to find a decent house with garden etc remotely close to Powai. I have a budget of 2-2.5 Lakh for rent each month but cannot find anything other than apartments.

We come from the north of scotland and like a bit of space. We also have 4 cats that would expect some sort of access to the outside, even if it has to be enclosed. I dont think the 11th floor would do this.

are houses available, or do we resign ourselves to apartments only.

thanks in advance

Ian

Hiranandani gardens has a few 'bugalows', row-houses really. Small though, max. 3 bedrooms I think, so you could get a bigger apartment with your budget. garden space is limited, although I was in a corner house once which had a bit more. Mention Eden Bungalows to you real estate agent.

Hi Stanley,

Welcome to India, Mumbai. As rightly mentioned by Hemmie, there are small villas within Hiranandani Gardens, closer to the Hiranandani school. You can very well get it for your budget. In some houses, there would be backyards, a terrace garden etc, which would definitely be better than the high storey apartments.

When are you coming for your look see visit ?

Raghu

Hi Ian
welcome to mumbai
there is a cluster of rowhouses ( semi independent ) in hiranadani called Eden Bungalows
a gated community with 20 odd rowhouses that offer you better independence than an apartment. though the room sizes are not very spacious, they compensate in terms of open spaces, a small garden, and terrace
Do let me know if you need any assistance
Ram

Hi Shiv,

great to see ur message, actually its by chance I saw ur message, as i am logging in after after ages due to personal reasons. When are you planning to go to Mumbai and what would be your approximate budget ?

Even, if the budget is less there are numerous budget hotels, if your stay is brief. Then there is the Royal Palms, serviced apartments closer to Goregon.

Raghu

My husband and I are relocating to Mumbai also. He will be working in Thane- Are apartments all that are available? We are from Texas and like Ian - would like a bit of space. We would prefer outside garden space over inside room space. Does anyone have any ideas? also - has anyone relocated a dog to Mumbai?

Hi Heidel We are in the process of relocating with 4 kids and still considering to take our dog. We have are being helped by Brannigan Relocation and they have been very helpfull. We have found a very nice appartment with a lot of space (even with 4 kids) and a terrace in a relatively quiet neighbourhood. So it is possible to find such places. We have looked at many different places also independent bungalows but in the end we prefer to live in this apprtment building. Good luck with all the preperations, Elles

Ms. Hooft,
Thanks for the info. I will give them a call and see if they have something we can use. Are they helping you with the dog also?I have heard stories that the problem is not when you get there - but getting there.

Dear Heidel When we were there 2 weeks ago I have been talking to them too about bringing our dog. They can advise you on this too. By the way we decided against it since our dog will be 11 next month and I do not want to put her through this. Good luck with everything, Elles
