Hello all,
I'm a 27 year old female, hoping to move to India in September with my boyfriend. At the moment we're thinking Mumbai but have no set plans yet. I'd greatly appreciate any advice or tips anyone might have on finding legal or NGO work. I'm currently working as a solicitor in London. My experience is mainly in human rights law and civil litigation. We're moving for a lifestyle change and i realise that i'm unlikely to be able to do the same work as I do in London. From my research so far it doesn't seem possible to work as a foreign lawyer in India. I'd therefore be looking to move across into something related to law or civil liberties, possibly working in the NGO or charity sector. Apologies if this is slightly vague, i'm trying to be as specific as possible whilst keeping my options open, i'm really fairly flexible! Any advice such as where to look, the likelihood of finding a job, things to expect, regional areas where such work is most likely...etc... would be great!! Thank you! |

Niajane,
Depending upon the area of interest/work you can start looking for NGO's, that is if you'd want to work for the welfare of women, Children, elderly people. Or else , you could get in touch with Society for Service to Voluntary Agencies Room No. 2 & 3, Petit Municipal School R.K.Patkar Marg, Opp. Bhabha Hospital Bandra (W) Mumbai - 400050 Phone: 2655-5704 / 2641-1205 email: sosva@hotmail.com website: http://www.sosva.org Field of work: Support organization for NGOs. Depending on your skill sets, qualifications and area of interest they recruit you as a volunteer in various NGOs. last week, i've sent them my application but haven't heard anything yet. Will let you know if I get some more information on this ground,

If you're expecting to be paid, you should be aware that it's not all that easy for foreigners to work in India.
