Do you know any Travel/Health insurrance in India ? I would need some medical inssurance only for two three months as I am quitting my indian company and will not have anything else... I heard HDFC is providing something, have you heard about it ? Thanks |

How about:
http://www.worldnomads.com/ You can buy online from anywhere in the world. I have no personal experience of this company, but quite a few IMers use them. Tim in England

Indian health insurance will not be available to you unless you have a residents permit ---if you can hold onto the one you must have had while working here, it would probably do. Suspect you have to take a year cover.
One example see www.bajajallianz.co.in Anything aimed at people living in the Indian economy is going to be in a different ballpark to policies aimed at visitors. But then so will the benefits! On the Nomads site: If I select India as my country of permanent residence (which it is), I only get the opportunity for a quote for 'whole world excluding India'. If I say I live in UK, then 3 months Worldwide, excluding USA, Canada, The Caribbean & Japan is £91. Assuming you're relatively young and relatively healthy that would buy quite a bit of Indian insurance for the year!

I am coming to India, looking for health insurence for my son and I, we are not sure how long we are staying, short or long term, haven't decided whether or not to get PIO or Tourist Visa....will decide soon. It sounds like the above insurence can be had with only PIO is that true?

I don't know, but I think it is the residents permit that is key. Even with a PIO card you will have to register for a stay exceeding 180 days (I think...).
I understand that I can buy it on that basis: I do not have a PIO card. |

Worldnomads has a nice website but 150 euros for 3 months, no thanks ![]() I am an indian resident, I have my FRRO booklet and everything... Will check with HDFC, but my company will probably close my account, and getting a residence proof to open a new account in this country is a pain ! |

There are 4 large Indian General Insurance Copanies who provide health insurances called 'Mediclaim'.These cos. are Public Sector undertakings and lot of branches all over India.Cashless service is also provided in listed hospitals/nursinghomes. Most of the big Indian hospitals/nursinghomes are listed. The companies are 'National Insurance Co. Ltd.','New India Assurance Co.Ltd.', 'Oriental Insurance Co.' etc. Private insurance are also available like 'Bajaj Allianza',HDFC etc. But their service is not upto the mark, probably.

Hi and thank you very much people for all your answers.
I hit different insurrance companies and the foreigner accent is not very appealing for them. Anyways, I have a collegue who has an insurrance with HDFC, only thing is that she is paying 5000 Rps. a year. I don't think they will go for half year or anything and I need only 2 months. 1 Year with the indian company is the same price than 2 months with foreign one. Plus if something happen, i don't want my money to be put on a company closed bank account... I'll give a try for http://www.worldnomads.com/ I think. ![]() |
