Gyms in Juhu/ Andheri (E)

hello fellow mumbaikars
I am on the way of becoming one of those as well, have been here for 1 1/2 months. It appears that the fine indian cuisine is too good for me and I really need to join a gym. I have heard 'Psychs' is good, but maybe a little too upmarket for me. It's not the price, but I don't intend to join a gym where it's important to 'see and to be seen'. So does anyone know a 'normal' gym in this area? Hopefully.

Thank you a lot

tim

many around chakala area

Hi, there are many decent "gyms" in and around the chakala area (andheri east) in and around the highway and J B Nagar. You can also try out Golds at Andheri West at Shopper stop

I lived in Andheri E until recently and was going to Energym, right by Andheri station on the West side. Small, funky, but very friendly and helpful staff...and CHEAP. The trainers work with you pretty closely every time you work out, spotting, motivating, etc. It's got nowhere near as much of an attitude scene as where I'm going now: Gold's in Bandra, which has more models and actors checking themselves out than you can shake a stick at!

Thanks Fruitiji for your input, I will go check it out. Does Golds have better gym equipment etc -thinking it would due being bigger etc? I am not really interested in posing , just wanna make sure there's some decent equipment, both cardio and weights. do you also happen to know where I can buy some protein powder over here, preferably Optimum Nutrition? I am struggling to find any health and fitness/vitamin stores selling supplements, do they exist?

Yeah Aus E...Gold's, Sykes, Talwaker's, etc., will all have shinier and more plentiful equipment (and snootier floor staff) then my little Energym. But honestly, I've already found that I have to wait for stuff at Gold's during peak time just as much if not more than I waited at Energym. Like I said, it's funky...but sweet, helpful, and friendly. Just go check it out and see. You'd likely be the only foreigner member, now that I've moved out of the neighborhood.

I get my Optimum Nutrition whey powder and other stuff like that from Alfa, the legendary complex of discount stores in Irla, Andheri W, off SV road. The prices are unbeatable but the stock on hand can be hit and miss, and it's a zoo in the evening. There's a new Neulife store here in Bandra next to Gold's. Everything is in stock but they charge way more. I know there are other sources for supplements here and there. The staff at whatever gym you end up at can tell you where to go.

Good luck.
