Be sure to join the Bombay Expats on Yahoo Groups and Facebook. There are a few people involved in the film industry on the email list. I second Vaibhav's advice on location - my advice would be to stay between Santacruz and Goregaon. Bandra is unnecessarily expensive.

Don't let that opinion or feeling carry over to most of Mumbai or Bollywood however.

Try winning a desi pageant?

Gta has several desi pageants, why not try to enter a pageant, there might be a possibility of you getting noticed by a agent.

A girl from brampton won a desi pageant, and got a job at India's MTV as a vj and some bollywood roles.

I could do the same in Bombay too? No?
Also, there is only one pageant I know of which caters to the South Asian Community -
it would be Ms.India-Canada.

Thanks for your advice.

I propose that you take up theoretical physics or astrophysics for that matter there are some really interesting problems to solve, bollywood is too trivial.

Too many contestants in pagents in India, chances of winning very slim and there are costs to enter.

Gta has several, google them.

Ways to enter Indian Film:

Win a Pagent
Date Salaman
Buy a role
Offspring of a star

Ifrabulous, I am connected to the Bollywood film industry (in a small way) and I feel the best route for you would be to act in a Hindi / English film made in Canada / US. There are many Indian / foreign films being shot in Canada / US.

I feel it would be easier for you to break through there than here.

Once you have acted in a film there, then you can use your film as a showreel for an entry into Bollywood as what the director / producer needs to see is your acting talent and your film would display that.

There's are 2 or 3 Indian movies made here maximum in Canada a year. With respect to that, there is not much casting calls and such because Canada does not have that big of a movie industry. If I were to move to America, it would be pretty much the same for me in comparison to India. Basically, I live alone and have to go to casting calls. I can do that in India as well, whilst making connections with more people in the industry. Who knows? Maybe, one of those connections can help me.

With respect to all that. I am arriving in Mumbai on the 30th as I already have my tickets.
