English girl (28) moving to Bombay

Hi all. I'm moving to Bombay next week to volunteer as a teacher and hopefully improve my Hindi. I'll also be taking my CELTA course with the British Council. Would be great to meet others living in the city for a coffee or a beer. Also, if any help on the following would be greatly appreciated:

- Hindi tutoring - I've learnt the basics at Landour Language School but would love to join a group class or take private lessons. I've been through the threads on this topic but they are quite old. Any recommendations of teachers would be great or others who'd like to learn and share classes.
- Flat sharing - I've found a couple of options for flat sharing in and around Bandra but if anyone knows of anything else...
- Would love to join a club where I can swim and meet new people. Have read the threads of Otters and Breach Candy Clubs. If anyone has any up to date experiences of either of these (or other clubs) and short term membership fees (6mths-1yr) that would be great.

Many thanks, Bella

Hello Bella,

There are a couple of groups on facebook - Mumbai Expats, Bombay Expats etc which should help you make new contacts in the city. The Internations.org website is also useful.

I have a few foreigner friends here. Happy to meet up for a coffee and introduce them to you

These clubs are not cheap and getting membership is not easy. Breach Candy is far off from where you propose to live; and not practical on a regular basis. Otters Club aint what it used to be when it opened. If swimming is what you want to do, check options at the nearby Taj Land's End.

Have you arrived in Bombay? Welcome if you have! Good to know you are taking you CELTA course at BC...have been associated with them for a few years myself though I now stay in Pune. Please send me a message once you are here and we could definitely catch up for coffee. Cheers, Aviram.

Welcome to IM , please take care & be safe .
And use discretion in meeting / hooking up with people online .
