Buying a Car
Hello,
I will be in Mumbai for 2-3 years and need to get a car. For those with experience obtaining a car, do you recommend buying a car or finding a long-term lease. If we decide to buy a car, how hard is it to sell it used on the prvate market? Thanks for any insights. |

If you have a resident's permit and an internation drivers licence, buying a car is simple. New cars often come with insurance and servicing thrown in.
Indian built cars are a very good price, imported ones are expensive due to tax. Driving is an entertaining challenge - but you get used to it. Navigation is the biggest issue - few road signs and every street looks the same. Don't know about selling yet .... but after 2-3 years of Mumbai roads, your car wont be worth anything anyway! ![]() |

It is not a big problem to sell a car in india ..especially which is 2/3 years old.
What i know from my experience a lot of people would be interested in it...but choose ur model carefully which has good demand. and In 2/3 yrs u will know ur surronding aswell..to sell it easily buying a car is worth it..if u cant lease it...which i believe is still new in india |

I would say buy, even though you will get approximately half the money when you sell after 3 years.

that depends on the model........... best to go for a model which has been in market for some years and has good resale value

hey there - I took a loan for a Lancer when I was living in Bangalore a few years back. Getting the loan at that time for a foreigner was a real pain but it got done - took a 3 yr loan. I like to drive, but if you don't feel comfortable doing so, then you should take a driver.
