Arrived in Mumbai - How to meet people?

Hi all, I've arrived in mumbai to take up a secondment with my firm from the UK. I've done this expat relocation thing once before, when i moved from Australia to London. This is a whole lot different though - i don't know anyone! Are there any groups I can join to make some sane friends? I'm single and mid 30's, so the morning coffee option that the intenational women's groups tend to run aren't obviously for me! Are there any groups for other working singles or couples?

I think i've found a place to live in Cuffe Parade - which was an experience in itself, but i think i'm sorted with that now!

Please reply...

Thanks for that. I'll have a look out for meet-ups. So i guess there are no expat groups (apart from the international womens sort of one's?)

Hi Anthony,

Have been in similar situations - moving from India to Indonesia and from there to the UK. A new place can be daunting until you make some friends. You are clear across town from me - I am just about to take up an apartment in Juhu. That said, you are more than welcome to stop by and I'm happy to introduce you to my friends and workmates...there are always events, activities and things to do in a group and the entertainment biz does tend to welcome newcomers.

Hi tempestade, thats really generous of you! It'd be great to meet some friends. I'm in marketing, so at least workwise we should have something in common!! Can I have your email? I'm staying temporarily in Parel, but should be moving to a place in Cuffe Parade in a week or 2 - hopefully!

Hi again,

Glad to get you started off on meeting people here in Mumbai. You'll find a jump-off point is all it takes. Mumbai gathers people into it folds with this amazing ripple-effect.

Write me at tempestadeciel@gmail.com and we can exchange numbers. I am very new on here and haven't got the hang of PMs or aught else

You could also join the Mumbai expat group on Facebook. They organise regular get togethers which take place in the evening (usually Wednesday night).
Good luck!

Um, this is completely off-topic so I do apologize, but Anthony, Tempestade and Clancy, I also work in Marketing (in Australia) and am really interested in getting in contact with people working in marketing in Mumbai, to find about viability of working over there at some point, and the general ex-pat experience.

Would any of you mind if I emailed you off the forum about these questions? Would be greatly appreciated
