Anyone's kids commuting to ASB from Powai ??
We are new to Mumbai, and currently have an apartment in Bandra, however hy husband is commuting to Powai every morning, and then over to centrepoint so spends the better part of the morning in traffic. We are considering moving to Powai, but we have a 10 year old daughter who we are in the process of enrolling in the American school, and were wondering if anybody else has kids commuting from Powai. They tell me it is a 15 minute commute, but it always seems to take us a whole lot longer than that. We are looking into the S.M. Shetty International school as well, if anybody has any info it will be welcomed!!!

I live in Powai, and have a son on the waiting list for EC3 next year. There are many children from Powai doing the commute. from what I hear it takes about 2-25 minutes in the morning, and about 45 minutes coming back.
Expat children from Powai go to either ASB or Ecole Mondiale (this one has an even longer commute). The first expat children are now starting at the new Oberoi International school, much closer, but don't know yet how they like it. Good chance our son will go there though, since there is a very small chance of him getting into ASB. The Shetty school isn't even very popular among the well-off Indian families, most children in my son's Nursery go on to Bombay Scottish or Hiranandani foundation school. I think the last one is starting the IB program next year, but it can be hard to get your child in if you don't own an apartment in Hiranandani Gardens. |

Thank you Hemmie for your reply- I hadn't even heard of Oberoi. Will definitely look into it. I have since also heard the same about the Shetty school.. Scratch that one off the list. I will find out after the Christmas break if our daughter has a spot in ASB.
How do you like Powai? From my brief visits there it looks nice, and seems to have many things are within walking distance. Do you utilize the Forrest Club? |

Hi Oilwife, I have been in Powai for almost 2 years now, I really like it, especially with young children. Without or with older children Bandra might be nicer, livelier, more restaurants, etc. We don't use the Forest club, but I know there are expats using it, and not unhappy about it. We joined Waterstone's, which is not very far from Powai.
