Advice on Santa Cruz

Hi,

We will be moving to Mumbai in a couple of months time, working for a company based in Santa Cruz.

We would welcome any advice on:

- good schools in that area (children aged 5 and 7). We are from UK and have been advised to find a school that follows English curriculum rather than American... what difference is there?

- clubs in the area, what sort of facilities do they have, how much do they cost

- What is Santa Cruz like as an area to live or would you recommend a different area (we are advised to live as close to work and school as possible)

Any advice for first-time expats would be HUGELY welcome!

Hi
Moving to Mumbai ourselves 22nd of November. We did the shool search too, however our daughter is only 2,5 yo so not decided yet. When you are based in Santa Cruz you could also choose to live in Bandra or Juhu. I must say I only know Santra Cruz from the hotel we stayed in while we were on our pre-visit so I don't have much to tell you about it in terms of living there. It is true you should try to live as close as possible to school/work. Santa Cruz - Bandra or Juhu is doable in my opinion. We drove that a couple of times while we were in Mumbai. Santa Cruz to Bandra in the evening (rush hour) however took us quiet some time even though it is nearby.
In Juhu is the Ecole Mondiale (french int school) and in Bandra Kurla the American School. You can check out their websites to get an idea of the curriculum: www.ecolemondiale.org and www.asbindia.org.
As far as clubs are concerned, we are not a member (yet) however I know the JW Marriott in Juhu has a club and in Andheri there are 2 clubs: www.theclubmumbai.com and www.waterstonesclub.com.

Good luck!

Santacruz (West) is a nice suburb to not too far away from Dadar - the heart of Mumbai (Distance around 10 kms). It has nice alleys and is predominantly a residential area. There are many Villas in this suburb and an equal number of residential apartments.

Most people staying in this suburb belong to the Upper-Middle class or Upper class income bracket. It has many schools (my knowledge on the curriculum followed by them is limited though) and most of them are considered to be very good.

The suburb is close to the Juhu Beach and also within driving distance of Nanavati hospital. It is also about 10 kms driving distance from the Domestic Airport.

Overall an excellent place to reside in.
