Possible move to Kolkata- Information required

Hi all,

I've had a look through this forum but have not found the answer- perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place? I'm currently looking into a possible move into a permanent position there and would like any information you think would be necessary. I've visited India on business but know nothing about being an expat out there- website links would be gratefully received.

The main concern I have with putting my name forward for this would be that I am not married, but living with my partner. Is there any requirement there that by law we cannot live together? I am aware this is the case in some countries and would like clarity on the matter.

There is no law that states that you cannot live with your partner. Quite a few Indians live with their unmarried partners in cities.

BUT

Your partner cannot get a spouse/dependant visa with your employment visa. So he/she will have to get a tourist visa and have to leave the country every 6 months (unless he/she is a person of Indian origin with a PIO/OCI card).
