Moving to Kolkata in August
Moving to Kolkata in August
Hullo,
I'm moving to Kolkata in August to do research for my Master's degree, and this time around I need to find my own housing. Does anyone know of websites or apartment buildings that would allow me to find an apartment to rent for 5 months?
Thanks,
Becky

I suggest you go to the hotels section of
India mike and then go to the bottom at "west bengal"
Section. .
there is place call "Abode" , which runs
a full furnished vacation rental apartment
for rent . try to contact them.
also try this site www.vacationrentalkolkata.blogspot.com
Cheers

Hi Becky, i have just moved into my apartment. i was living as a 'paying guest'. be aware these places usually have curfews and quite strict house rules. i had a 11 o'clock curfew and strictly no alcohol policy. i managed two weeks. the peole were nice but our cultures are far too different to live under the same roof. if you don't mind rules it may be an option to consider Eamon
I'm in the same boat as you Becky. I'll be coming in September and I need to find a flat. I'm thinking of doing a homestay until I can find my own apartment. That way, I will have a safe place to stay for a little while, maybe I can get close to the family, and they can help me find an apartment that has a decent rent.
Please let me know if you find any leads!

Hi Becky, i just spoke to the NGO who arranged my flat. they said it's common practice to pay a broker a one 'finders fee' equivelant to one months rent. some ak for two months but with persistance you can normally get it for one.
you could try the kolkata newspapers under the classifieds section. if you have any further quesions regarding your move please feel free to contact me. i am an irish guy volunteering for a HIV oganisation until next march. by the way you're arriving at the best time of year. the monsoon should be over or almost anyway.the humidity at the moment is oppressive.
good luck
