Does anyone know if any of the local groceries/coffee shops have coarse ground coffee or alternatively, whole roasted coffee beans? I've just moved to Kolkata and while I like Cafe Coffee Day, it doesn't cut it when I need to stay awake!

I feel for you as I like my coffee very strong, and grind and brew it fresh each morning. I used to have serious coffee withdrawal on earlier visits to India. Things are a bit better now. That said, the people at Crosswords' coffee shop upstairs looked at me like I was asking for the moon when I enquired about buying beans.
Only place I could find any beans/ground was at Barista's. I don't remember now if they were whole or ground, but do remember they were decent. I got the Italian Lavazza ones. It was either that or the Indian one. I ordered a drink from each kind of bean first to test, and the Indian one was pretty weak; Italian one was not great or anything but ok. |
