PS: I may be repeating stuff but

-see newspaper ads, avoid agents, go to owners direct
-avoid cars driven by 'driver' employees
-take a trusted mechanic (or recommended) along, watch that he doesn't gang up with seller
-see paperwork properly, including registration and insurance.
-beware of 'accident vehicles'- those that had been painted up after pileups.
-Haggle

This is a good place to start.
These are "checked" by company engineers, and graded/priced according to condition.
I think Hyundai has something like this too, but not 100% sure about that. Almost all car companies have been running exchange schemes for the last few months to beat recessionary trends, so the dealers might have a second-hand inventory to get rid of.
When I was researching for the car I never bought, found Team-BHP a good place to get all the inside dope.

I bought one a few months ago; after several stops at shady second hand dealers I resorted to my driver and other drivers to find a car. They found one in a few days. I got a 3 year old Ambassador Grand, in excellent shape, for USD3,000. I love it. The other posters make good points; I bought direct from the owner, and had a mechanic look at it as well. There is paper work to be done and it is all a pain in the a** but you need a car, especially once the heat starts again!

& " The Times of India " Kolkata Edition ,
You will find plenty inserts from Individual
Owners and Second hand car dealers from Kolkata.
Now there are some Big showroom of Maruti and
Huyundai sales for Pre Owned Cars.
