Broadband Advice
Hi,
I'm a web designer moving to Kolkata from UK.
Can anyone advise me on a reliable provider?
In the UK I have the following package:
Maximum download speed 8MB
Maximum upload speed 448KB
Monthly download allowance (bandwidth) 25GB
All for £20 (or @ Rs1360).
I guess I could manage with less bandwidth but really need the speed and a reliable connection.
Suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.

Internet , event Broadband is pretty slow in India.
If you want the cheapest option, go for BSNL Brodband. You might (or might not) have problems related to reliability though depending on the region.
Check BSNL tarrifs Here : http://bsnl.co.in/service/New_BB_postpaid.htm
Airtel surely is the best for reliable network connection.
It has some great unlimited usage plans but the speed is less.

Tata Indicom does have good speeds for fixed line broadband, but is rather pricey. Let us know which solution you finally opted for and how happy you are with it.
If u want to go for wired BB connection and speed is your main concern then go for
Airtel they are providing a speed of 16 MBps (max download).
Speed Combo 4999 – receive 16 Mbps broadband speed with monthly data transfer limit of 50 GB alongwith a fixed line connection at Rs. 4999 per month,
And if your want a wireless connection
Then i am afraid to say no one provides 8 Mbps .
but I will recommend u for Tata photon or reliance ..
Tata photon promises 3.1 mbps .
but the main problem is they dont have any unlimited plan.

Wow, Five Thousand Rupees (or $111) per month for Internet is a H-U-G-E amount! Yes, Airtel is pretty reliable and has good customer service. Infact I haven't had a downtime in years, fingers cro
NO CARRIER
Ahhh... those were the days
I've just traced some recent uppy-downy behaviour to the ASDL splitter/filter, so I can't blame Airtel. Not everyone agrees, but I do find their support far superior to BSNL. BSNL doesn't do support, it just promises that someone will call you back. Sometime. Sometimes they do. Airtel actually talk you through stuff, and even send somebody round if necessary!

Tata Photon+ can get 2mbps+ surfing speed, but it all depends on network traffic and connectivity! At times it'd just refuse to connect! A 1.5GB download limit can cost you around 1200-1500 rs.If reliability is your priority, go for Airtel Broadband! But eventually you'll find it more expensive than BSNL or any other service provider around!

Hey i also have a tata photon+ connection . It works really good . And I hv a Rs 900 plan per month ..
surfing speed is 3.1 mbps (during afternoon little slow like 1.5 or 1 mbps)
Download Limit is 5 GB per month
I am using that since 5 months and really i never faced any connection problem .. It always connects..
MTS India has launched MTS MBlaze CDMA device (same technology as tata photon & reliance netconnect) with unlimited usage at Rs. 999 per month with a fair usage policy of 15GB. That is after usage of 15 GB, the speed will be reduced from 3.1mbps to 144kbps.
