Studying Hindi in Hyderabad

I have just moved to Hyderabad and am looking to study Hindi. Does anyone have any information about classes that are available here?
I am looking at maybe studying once or twice a week as everyday might be too much. Once I get a good start I can study on my own and practice with my bf and other friends from work.

Thanks!

Mod Note

Hi Shelley. Even though you've already "moved" to Hyderabad - I've shifted the thread here in the hope it will get a bit more exposure and get noticed by the local Hyderabad IM members. Good luck.

I'll be living in Hyderabad in a couple months and would love language lessons as well. Though I was thinking Telugu... forgive my ignorance, would Hindi be more appropriate/useful? Are either one of these languages tonal? My hearing isn't great and tonal languages are always hard for me.

A lot of hyderabadi's speak hindi, but telugu is the major language, and once you go out of hyderabad, then telugu is the only language that will help you in the rest of the state (other than english ofcourse).

I'm really enjoying it! The company I work for is great, and I have also met amazing people already. Plus I like the city a lot. I don't have an apartment yet, and my company is taking me to see one today in Banjara Hills.
So I have to say so far so good!

As for studying Hindi, although Telegu is the language of the state, I feel Hindi will serve me better throughout India and with most people. In my company most people are from other states, therefore Hindi will be more helpful in the long run, I think.

Glad your enjoying it! From what I remember Banjara Hills is actually a really nice and posh area, so if you find an apartment you like and if your company is paying for it, then i'd say grab it!!

Goodluck with hindi, I personally think its the easiest Indian language, and it just gets easier once you start watching Hindi movies!!

BTW I might be there by this time next month, so lets try to plan a Hyderabad meet-up with VivaPamplona, Cpt. Mahajan, and some other hyderabadis if we can.

Hi Shelley

I recently moved to Hyderabad about a month ago from the US. Would also like to learn Telegu and Hindi. So if you find a good tutor, let me know. Also does anyone know of any good expat groups that are still functioning here?
