Schools for 2nd, 4th kindergartener and highschool sr in Hyderabad
Anyone can recommend a school for expat kids? Woould love to have the rigor of a good education, but everthing I have heard is that the Indian kids do not welcome the whitey's very well (incidents of hiting and shunning) plus my kids do not speak Hindi.
So can anyone advise of a school in Hyderabad that won't cane my kids, but is solid? |

Hi Barefoot, interesting to follow your latest posts. They'd seem to suggest you're planning to stay, is that right? Or was that your idea all along? --> Am I in over my head?
There was this interesting-looking thread on education for the young there today: English-medium school in Tirupur (Tamil Nadu)? The question comes up fairly regularly of course, so you could search around some more, certainly around the various Expat sub-forums, or just on the relevant keywords.

Partial purpose of the trip here was to see if we liked it enough to stay for a two to three year rotation offered by my husbands job. We are considering it... lots of factors.
Schooling is definitely a big one. If the schools I visit are crap we are not coming at all. Yes, we are considering a stay of 2-3 years starting next year sometime. Part of the purpose of our adventure trip was to se how the kids reacted, and if they/i can handle it. Based on my willingness to consider staying after my medical emergency, I think I am certainly crazy, but schooling is probably the biggest dealbreaker. My husband loves it here! I am still on the fence and weighing all things. Last edited by machadinha : Mar 4th, 2008 at 05:10. Reason: merged posts |

Yes, certainly (er, the schooling, not your being crazy
)That mention on the other thread mentioned above of alternative education systems taking a big flight in (Southern) India caught my attention. Might merit looking into further, and others here will hopefully have suggestions. The Montessori method mentioned there got misspelled btw, should you want to look on for it. ps I was reading about that emergency of yours yes. That's not exactly peanuts, hope you're doing well, and I much respect your apparently down-to-earth or even cheery way of dealing with it and some other stuff if I may say so. I've seen people less prepared for migration ![]() |

barefoot,
dont let the prospect of sending your kids to school here intimidate you however, i do empathise with your trauma of finding good schooling, where your kids will not be 'abused' [ trust me, ALL parents have the same need!] having said that: Oakridge International School is along the lines of international schools in any urban set-up: http://www.oakridgeinternational.com/ Centre for Learning: [highly recommended alternative school] if you want your kids to get the feel of the country and experience another culture whilst having fun - you can check out: http://www.learningnet-india.org/lni...-hyd/index.php hope the info will be of some help. :brishti |

http://www.ishhyd.com/ This seems to be where many (most?) of the expats are
http://www.slokawaldorf.com/ I think the only Waldorf School in India, and very intriguing Also heard there's a new one opening, a new branch of the Indus International School in Bangalore. Maybe someone in Bangalore knows something about this one? http://www.indusschool.com/ http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showthrea...mber=109363 9 |

You should consider Hyderabad Public School. It is very prestigious if your kids can get admission. Its in the middle of the city on a huge 160 acre plot. Its sort of the "Eton of India".

The campus they have is huge 160 acres right in the middle of the city! They can make use of it and do some restoration. If they build new buildings they should make sure they match the architecture and grandeur of the original buildings. Mayb ask the Adobe CEO who is an alumni for a nice donation. ![]() |

As I was told my Dull 16 year old may not make it in Indian School, I think ICRISAT is the best choice for her... Went to visit the campus and was impressed. Sorry to se they did not offer HINDI classes on a daily basis though..it seems silly not to, and presently only French offered.
For my younger ones I will check out some other options. Thanks for the help INDIA MIKE! |
