Hi Aneehs - couple of things, and I'm going to be blunt - I don't know you, do not know your inlaws.

I was told the other day it is considered rude if you move away from the family.
Ie. you marry into a family and then move away to your own home.

Absolutely make it clear to your husband and (he in turn to your inlaws) that you and your family will be living in seperate accomodation. (because you mentioned it was stiffling - this I understand)

I also mention this as you said your father in law was taking care of the monetary side of things - would there be any strings attached to this? Would they make you feel beholden to them?

Have you and your husband had an international move before? Would you be bringing furniture with you?
I mention these, purely to give you a heads up - an international move is STRESSFUL & and you have children which will add to your stress. Understand that a lot of it is exactly that - stress. Remember to be gentle with each other, lean on each other, and be extra communicative.

Myself - I fell in love with India when I walked out of the airport.
I love the rawness of it, and although it is in your face (which I didn't find so much of in Hyderabad) there is so much beauty in the people. In every country the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. In Washington DC there are people living on the street around the corner from the white house- it's just that it is so much more prevalent here because the population is so much bigger, the standard of living is different.

I also do not have children - but I don't think that would stop me, or make me act any differently.

The one thing I have had to get my head around is having people in the house doing things that i would normally do for myself, especially as I am not allowed to work in India. (I know this sounds terrible) The way I cope is to think that I am affording them a income they may not have had.

It will more than likely take some time for you to get domestic help to do things the way you want them to do it - to your level of cleanliness.
A settling in period- normal with anything.

The plus side of this is - Indians in general are very good with children - they tend to get spoiled - not in a bad way I think. So you'll have no problems having someone help you in that department. You'll also have the help of your in laws I would imagine - as long as it doesn't overstep your boundaries.

I hope this is of some help.
You know how to get me.
Take care.

Oh - Capt - no doubt about the car, just means we will not be using them when we move. (but for 2 days hubby was tired and couldn't be bothered arguing)

Hey,
re Apt/house hunt freinds are the best source..also depends on u r professions, kids schools, what kind of a place u want etc..My best thought is first figureout kids schools .Once u know their bus routes or mode of transport if close by etc then think about u and u r hubby. If u r a sw professional madapur,JB hills,BJ hills,Gatchibowli,Nanakram guda,Srinagar cly and manikonda are the best.they hav gud places to live ( gated communities are gud) and schools are close by.If u r a physician or other profession u hav to be close to u r work.In any case, if u r moving in the next 2-3 months 3BR costa around 25-35,000.U dont need gated communities in the ctr of the city.

Re: cars, no matter what u buy they get bumped into or scratched or smashed in very little time.Go for something like mid size Hyundai or swift..something that can be easily parked and can cut through the traffic.Ideally hav 1 practical car like that and another gud one of u r choice.

We have 2 children so I would like space for them to play outside etc.
Where do I start???!! Thanks!

Just wanted to add that it will cost you ALOT...And if your ready to spend alot of money then you should get a house in or around Banjara Hills or Mehdipatnam or toli chowki etc., rather then taking on the outskirts.

Accomodation and schhol near Jubilee Hills

Hi Hyderabad,

I will be moving to Hyderabad in November start with my family. This forum looks best to get answer to my queries, hyderabadis looks very helping here.
I would appreciate if I can get some information for:

1. 2BHK accomodation near Jubilee hill (My Office place).I am ready to drool out 10K per month.
2. Do people ask advance rent/security money, if yes how much?
3. My daughter need admission to 1st standard. Would prefer a good school near accomodation area.
4. Any experience of getting kids mid-year admission in schools. Do schools in Hyderabad allow that.

I can commute a bit for my office , but I prefer my accomodation to be near kid school. Thanks for suggestions in advance.
