Question Ok, it's official. We are moving too!

We are moving to Hyderabad in first week of August. My hubby is indian (a telugu guy in fact) and got a job offer that was impossible to refuse .

So, here we are, moving to India from a small european country. Temporarily we will move to a rented house and his employee is looking for it already. That's my hubbys part i won't worry about it

We will need to find school for our soon to be 6 year old daughter. I love the sound of Sloka school, a waldorf school but unfortunatelly they have no space for her so i have to keep looking for one. She is far from being fluent in english so i would definitelly look for something a bit "easy on kids" to start with. Any suggestions? I suspect it will be hard to find her a school that will actually have space.

Second thing, I am pregnant. In fact when i will arrive to India I will be 29 weeks pregnant so i will need to find a gynecologist fast and also choose a hospital for delivery fast as well. Would love some recomendations on some good doctors. I saw the post from Anna N recomending Rainbow Hospital wich i will definitelly consider cos of her good feedback.

What else? Oh, yes, there is something I need some help with as well. We found a wonderful new owners for our precious dog (i just thought her quality of life here, in unspoiled nature will be so much better then in India and decided to find her new owners) but i can't find anyone to take my cat - so we will bring her along. What is the procedure for bringing a cat to India? Anyone any experience on that? Would be happy to get some info on that. What kind of vaccinations are required to enter india?

I am shipping lots of stuff by sea...we are moving for a long time...i won't say for good still have to pack and organise loads of stuff. Moving is so much work! I wish there was a fast forward button somewhere to just get it over with

hi there!

I know the feeling, so much to do, so little time Anyway, my husband will start on the 11th of August, and we will join him end of August. I haven't start packing yet, but yes, there is soooo much to think about. We will only be in Hyderabad for one year, so we will rent a furnished house / flat. Company got us a flat, but maybe we will look for a house with a little garden as we got very busy and active children!! And they LOVE to play outside. Got two boys, one is almost 3 and the other one is 14months. I also have two dogs, I still trying to get them good homes... anyway. Must stay in touch as we are both going to be new in a big city, but I'm VERY excited!

til later,
tish

Great, Tish!

Yeah, I think one sure needs some friends or buddys when coming to a new city. I did live in India before...3 years in Bangalore...that was in 2001 till 2004. Maybe it was 2 and a half years. Had my daughter there. Now we have been living in Slovenia (my home country) since then and are now headed back to India.

Good luck with finding good new owners for your dogs...it's pretty tough to let them go, isn't it? I am lucky in a way that i have an extremely pretty flatcoated retriver and the demand for this breed here is far greater then the "supply" I am getting first set of people who want to have her this Sunday! And they plan to take her to their home right away and see how they connect. I hope everything goes well. She loves ppl and will be happy, i am sure!

Tomorrow i am taking our cat for some additional vaccinations and will get a passport for her and i guess she will be getting a chip as well. We are all happy to bring her along...i just hope she will be happy too.

I am also off to Indian embassy tomorrow...i am applying for PIO card. For me and my daughter. My hubby is currently with us but is flying back to Hyderabad this Saturday. Will join us again end of July and we will fly together on August 10. That is extremely soon

Today i had my regular check up and my doc said i can walk to India...lol. Everything is perfectly closed down there...lol. Will have one more check up before leaving.

I still work as well, so it's hard to manage everything. I am actually not quiting my work cos i am off for a maternity leave wich in my country is one year long...with 100% pay After one year i don't plan to go back to work but maybe when the new baby is 3 years old i will go back to work. That is why i am applying for a PIO card - it allows you to work in India.

All this is very exciting but also scary We had a very nice life here...but my hubby always wanted to go back to India so I knew it's coming sooner or later - i just thought it will be a bit later...lol.

I am getting my PIO Card on Monday! That was so fast. I expected some compications at least...lol.

My hubby flew back to Hyd today morning so next imte he flys in we are then off together.

My DD and I packed her toys today and we are packing DH's books -loads of them . I got an offer for sea shippment. They will charge me 137 Euros per cubic meter or a ton of goods. I think i won't "produce" more than 2 cubic meters for sure. The ship will go to Madras and from there i will have to organize transport to Hyd separately.

I got my cat vaccinated, chip installed, pasport aquired. I still have no info of exact vaccinations she would need to have to enter India with no hassel. Don't even know where to ask, to be frank.

So, so far so good. But not even close to an end yet

Yes, it does, doesn't it!

They may be quick with the card, but the brown eyes and black hair take a little longer to be delivered .

Mind you, even they are optional (Aiswaria Rai has green eyes; Mmmmmm ), and I find that people often assume that I am a fair-skinned Indian from up North. My wife keeps having to explain to people that I'm no better at Hindi than I am at Tamil .

I don't think your cat needs, formally, any injections to come here, but if I were you I'd make sure she gets everything. Rabies is important. A cat carrying rabies can transmit it to people in its saliva.

It is a tough life for cats here: I'm afraid many people don't give them any respect --- but you'll find cats/dogs/moving discussed in other threads.

thanks ignite!
nick-h, i don't think those brown tones will ever be delivered...lol. i am unmistakenly not indian as per my looks...as per my heart...well being married for 8 years to one and having a totally indian looking daughter i sure feel more indian then i did 10 years back

10 years back i would think this forum is for nuts only! when i was planing my travels with my best friend from university i always said: "anything east does not interest me"...they still serve me with that every now and then...india for me happened by a total surprise!

i realise that cat's don't get any respect but i also know that my cat won't give any respect to them either...lol. she might be a bit miserable at first but she'll be fine around us. she is used to going outside...one thing she will sure miss...bringing different kind of rodents to our porch every morning...

24 days till we move so many things left to be done i sold the car! i sold my bicycle...lol. Still have to place and add for washing machine, dryer, fridge,... my hubby always manages to not be around when there is lots to be done but i love him anyway

She can make up for it by bringing lizards. I love the big lizards in our garden, and am very sad when I find a dead one. I've rescued a few from our cats, though.

We do have rodents, of course, although some of the rats may be bigger than your cat

24 days... At that stage I was really wishing I'd given myself at least another month! But the date, sooner or later has to get fixed. Good luck with all that last-minute stuff

...the little ones that live in the house, geckos, are sweet. The bigger ones that live in gardens are fascinating.

And they all help to keep the insect population in check

Begumpet is around the centre of the city. Commercial, shopping, crowded.. but which part of the (liveable part of the ) city isnt?

Within Begumpet, there are many areas which are quieter than others.

Jubilee hills apartments are available. Generally quieter area but commuting (if required) can be murder.

we are moving into a furnished 3BHK apartment. The apartment complex is called either My Home Hub or My Home Navadweepa. Got no idea where it is, but hubby will go and have a look. We are renting it for a month, and if it is suitable for the kids, we will stay on. Otherwise he will also go on a househunt as soon as possible. We are only joining him 2 weeks later.

Are you looking for a aparment of house? I would prefer a house with a little garden (for the kids).Hubby will be working at a placed called Ascendas IT Park.
