Moving to Shahabad

This will be my first time to India.

I am going to be moving to Shahabad for a 6-8 month contract. I know it is about 5 hours by car outside of Hyderbad. From what I am told it is an hour to the nearest western type of supermarket.

Housing will be provided by my company as will bottled water, food will be provided by a "guest house" that is used to cooking for westerners.

My wife will eventually cook for us when she gets familiar with the local market and available food.

Any suggestions as to what I should bring besides the usual third world country supplies?

Will the local fruits and vegetables be safe to eat if soaked in a mild bleach water solution? Then washed with bottled water?

thank you in advance for your help.

You may have to come to Hyderabad to find a western type supermarket. If you are expecting a typical Walmart even in Hyderabad you might be disappointed. Shahabad is a small town which is primarily known for mining limestone, Cement manufacture and dryland agriculture. So it will be dusty, dry and hot. Its on the Chennai-Mumbai train line, so a few trains stop there.

Don't know what you meant by 'usual third world country supplies', so will leave it at that. As a local I do use the local fruits and vegetables washed in regular tap water. Don't know how/what bleach is helpful. And don't want to another man made chemical in the environment.
